Valley Center won their game. Just back from the Stadium and it was a pretty good game. Not that well played considering the short turn around for the teams to get ready. The difference was that Valley Center adjusted to what Santana was doing with their 5-3 stack defense fairly quickly while Santana took till late in the fourth quarter to see that they could complete short passes over the middle and that their QB could run on keepers and scrambles. Exciting at the end as Santana scored a late TD to close within 6 but their on side kick try did not go the required ten yards.

Helix goes into running time against O'side.
Not much of a contest.

Not a surprise on that one. Pirates outclassed.

Panther Erik having a long night. 56-0 in the 3rd I wasn't the only one. UGLY game. But consider this - Vista lost 18 of last year's 22 starters to graduation (and last year's JV squad was just ok, nothing great, so they didn't have a lot to draw from). They lost not one, but TWO offensive coordinators (the first to go back to school to become an administrator, the second to a family emergency) and head coach Dan Williams had to take on TRIPLE duty as HC/OC/DC. And then they started 0-4. No way could a team make it to the Q under those circumstances, right? Well, they made it to the Q. They earned their spot through hard work and determination. The team had heart and character. They just met a better team in the finals, and they picked the wrong night to come out tight and nervous. They did not look like the same team that we've seen over the last two months. And it wasn't just Poway doing them in. No question, Poway had all the answers for what Vista was doing, but the Panthers just didn't play with their usual confidence and swagger. They didn't look like they were having fun from the minute they took the field. They looked tight and nervous in the pre-game warmups. But, still, I'm proud of what the team accomplished this year. The players, coaches, and parents all pulled together and made a run to the Q happen. It's been one of the best years ever for Panther football given all they had to overcome. (And also keep this in mind - their best RB (Jacob Bedford) was hobbled with a bad ankle injury from last Thursday's game, and he only got in the game for 3 plays before he had to come out of tonight's game.)

Yes, Vista did come out tight and nervous, and before they blinked, they were down 28-0. Pretty hard to come back from that.
Too bad, because Poway would have enjoyed a tight matchup.
That being said, the Titans played the kind of game that lead them to an undefeated season. Tough D, forcing turnovers, and capitalizing on them. They were clicking on all cylinders last night. Congrats to Coach Gonzales and Poway High.
And just an FYI, the JV was 9-1 this year, so we look for good things to continue here in the City in the Country!
