I've been a fan since I was a little Aztec. Every year I help distribute pocket schedules. Talk up the team to everyone I know.
How can an Average Aztec Fan step up the blue collar support in the community (without writing the big check)?

Very simple - show up the games. There are enough "average fans" to get a good crowd to the Q for every game.

Not sure about enough fans right now. Considering there are ton sdsu alumni we shoud have a full stadium or even half full. I don't know who was at Halloween 09 but I am sure the other 3,456 of you remember well.
Trying not to harp on the past. Just trying to come up with some ideas that I can help with publicizing this team.

Host a tail-gate for two or three other families, especially if they have kids (7-14 year-olds) who need fun things to do on a Saturday afternoon evening, and help by getting cheap tickets for them.
For away games, host parties at your house, beer and brats and bad-for-you-food. Even if they're not into the Aztecs yet, lots of people will come over for food and fun and football.

Home opener should be Alumni Reunion Night. Bring something in to prove your Alumni and receive Alumni Bumper Sticker. We just need to wake up all the sleeping Alumni.

I try in different ways, but here is the one I have found to be most effective.
I buy an extra season ticket to football (sometimes 2).
I then start early in the week inviting people I might think are interested in going. I might invite 4 people. Usually one or two are interested in going and most games I can get at least one to go.
I don't charge them for the tickets. I tell them it is my treat. Almsot all that go have a great time and a few of them have ended up buying season tickets on their own.
When I get them to the game, I spend time with them explaining the past (I think it is a mistake to not do that).
I tell them that once we were great and we have fallen on hard times. I tell them to not expect a win that night, but for the team to give it there all. I tell them that the loyal fans you see here are trying to help get fans interested in the program again. It appears to me when I do that, the new fan sees us as the underdog and feels like he wants to help.

Get to the parking lot early to enjoy a cookout and some adult drinks with your friends....then make some new friends in the parking lot....!!
Go into the Q ..EARLY enoung to see some of the pregame stuff...and certainly for kickoff..!!
So embarassing to have many folks in the parking saying that the will come into the Q only to show up late or not even show up..!!

Just got home from the gym. Was wearing an Aztec basketball t-shirt and Aztec football shorts. A gentlemen saw what I was wearing and we talked about football and basketball for a while. He also has season tickets for football and basketball. He agreed with me and thinks we will be bowling this year and a sweet 16 team in basketball.

The band pregame is worth checking out - and they love playing to fans in the stands...its a shame they have been pretty empty during pregame the last few years. But the band is ALWAYS psyched to run out of the tunnel. ;D

Tom, coming back from Arkansas last week on Continental Airlines. We land in San Diego. I am filing out of the cabin. The pilot is standing at the door. He sees my geer, smiles, and says "Go Aztecs".

Over the last year or two, more and more people, after I mention SDSU or that I can't wait till football starts start talking about the BB team. Some of these people I've know for years and never they never mentioned BB before. So -Winning is Everything!
