The only runs that scored resulted from a ball I am sure Gwynn would have caught. There have been a lot of hits to center in the last two games that Denorfia played center. I bet Gwynn would have caught at least two of them including last night's decider.

Denorfia did have a nice throw to throw out the runner at the plate last night.

Denorfia has cooled off, Gwynn should be put back out there. Have Denorfia platoon along with Hairston. Stairs should never start.

Denorfi with more horrendous defense, pretty much single handedly responsible for the 3 runs the dodgers just scored.

Hey Bill, how do you like Denorfi's inside the park homerun?

But that game had the Denofia touch too. There were runs early that wouldn't have scored if Gwynn had played. Most of the 9 runs wouldn't have scored in a closer game because Mujica wouldn't have pitched. It just proves my point. When I say Denofia played bad defense and cost us runs, readers don't know to which game I refer. He cost us runs in both games. He should not ever play center field for the Padres.

Hey Bill, how do you like Denorfi's inside the park homerun? Very interesting play. Two things that contributed: 1. His bunt attempts (or fakes) moved the third baseman in to allow the ball to hop over his glove. 2. Because Gwynn was running on the pitch, the left fielder took an aggressive angle to the ball, in an attempt to stop Gwynn at third. If Gywnn wasn't running the left fielder could have taken a more conservative angle to the ball and the Padres would only have runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs. Aggressive angles create more problems. The Dodgers had one. Fun Play. The play at the plate was too close with no outs. Especially with the top of the lineup coming up.

Your attachment to Gwynn is simply amazing. He can do no wrong in your book. Denorfia has won us more games than he lost, my friend. He and Gwynn should platoon in CF to limit Gwynn's offensive exposure. I wouldn't mind seeing him replace Denorfia (when Denorfia starts) in the 7th if we have the lead at that time. The days of teams starting Mark Belanger type players are over. Teams are to good 1-9 in the batting lineup now to play a player strictly based on defense.

Teams are moving the other direction. Defense is being given more weight throughout baseball, than a few years ago. Denorfia can not make up offensively for the difference between he and Gwynn defensively.
