UNADJUSTED DATA The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 370,616 in the week ending November 26, a decrease of 69,665 from the previous week. www.dol.gov/opa/media/press/eta/ui/current.htmThe Unadjusted Data are the actual numbers reported by the states. Two weeks ago there was a sudden increase in the numbers applying for UI. This week it has fallen back, down almost 70K. That speaks for two things: 1. The new normal weekly number is about 370,000. That is a healthy churn. 2. A lot of employers lay off employees in early November. I guess that is so they do not have to feel guilty about laying them off just before Christmas.
