How one views his or her responsibilities in society is an issue that entails many important personal decisions. Those decisions are influenced by our personal values. How have those values changed over the years? What is the difference between how people survived in the 19th Century as opposed to the 21st? Morality and ethics have taken a nose dive since the 1800's. Islamics look at that in the United States and say that the only solution is Sharia Law. Christian Law enforces very little. It is sort of like a wish list.
According to the advocates for Sharia, Law is supposed to enforce morality. Western law seldom does that.
The lack of morality and ethics is what brought us the horrible corruption in the banking and investing industries.

My only response is this - the Feds recognized that prior to the inception of income tax, 40 percent of the federal budget came from booze taxes. The Feds recognized that id they were going to vote in favor of prohibition they needed to find another source of revenue before they engaged in prohibition. Forbes is run by Steve Forbes who grew up in privilege and has no more clue about the working class than Romney has. And quite frankly Will, the faxt that you really have no understanding od the history of taxation in this country tends to negate your libertarian arguments. But then again, you spent your life teaching languages. The fact that you were able to that impresses me because language is not something I can do but please don't assume that you are capable of understanding what I do. =Bob How one views his or her responsibilities in society is an issue that entails many important personal decisions.
