Anyone here making the trip to Las Cruces for the New Mexico State game this fall? My wife and I will be there, though we haven't bought tickets yet. I'm wondering if there will be a small SDSU contingent we can sit with.

Call our ticket office at 619-283-SDSU. They should have those tickets on sale in a Aztec area by now.

I will be making the road trip with my girlfriend. I have also not purchased tickets and didn't see single game tickets for sale on the NMSU website. However, I will call the SDSU ticket office and inquire if they have tickets or will be getting any.

Let me know if you guys need any tips as to where to eat, what to do outside of the game, etc. I already posted a few restaurant tips in another thread a couple weeks ago. Las Cruces has some of the best Mexican food on the planet.
You won't have any problems getting tickets. The stadium seats about 35K and there isn't a bad seat in the house. I expect this game will draw around 25K max. They only sell out for the UTEP and UNM games.
EDIT: Don't plan on eating dinner at the game - stadium fare is pretty lousy. Plan on eating before, but leave plenty of time as things move a lot slower there than what you're accustomed to. I'm a San Diego native and the pace of life in Las Cruces drove me up the wall at first, until I got used to it. ;D

And if you are into marching bands, NMSU has absolutely one of the best.

The Wac will have an internet feed right? They should. If nothing else, NMSU has its AggieVision internet feed that you can get for a nominal fee. Just for fun, I have attached a photo of Aggie Memorial Stadium. As you can see it's a pretty intimate venue, and it's actually a pretty decent place for watching D-I football. The visiting team's seats are usually in the lower bowl around the 10 yard line in the opposite corner of where this photo was taken. Attachments:

I'm wondering if there will be a small SDSU contingent we can sit with. I plan on flying into ELP Saturday morning, then driving to Las Cruces. Thanks to panammaniac I plan on enjoying some wonderful Mexican cuisine before the game. After the game I'm planning on hitting a casino outside of Las Cruces before I head back to ELP, (room there). I plan on flying back Sunday, but if I'm enjoying myself I may stay longer. As far as a ticket, one of the reasons I like the "smaller venues" is I can pretty much sit where I want. Normally last row on the 50 yard line, (so I can evaluate the zones... ) I'll be wearing my Aztec road gear, so I'm sure we'll stand out. I hope to see you and other Aztec supporters at the game..

Thank you guys. I'll call the ticket office.
Thanks for the eatery tips. I'm a food writer so good cuisine is important, and I love Mexican food.
We'll look forward to seeing those making the trip southwest.

We'll look forward to seeing those making the trip southwest. If you're a food writer, then I would definitely recommend Chope's. It's a little hole in the wall place out in the middle of freaking nowhere, but the chile rellenos are out of this world, and the place really captures the local ambience. The locals can point you in the right direction, but if you want to look at a map it's in a little wide spot in the road called La Mesa, which is about 20 minutes southwest of Las Cruces. It would be a great place to stop in for dinner before the game on Saturday, but leave plenty of time as it's a 20-minute drive back to the stadium, and as mentioned earlier things tend to move a little slow there. I go back for homecoming every year and end up planning the entire weekend around the restaurants. Chope's is one of my annual must do's, along with Nopalitos and Robertos (we usually go there just for the sopaipillas as they're the best in town).

We may try all three, but will be sure to eat at Chope's. Can't wait for this trip and may make a couple more this year. I hope our Aztecs don't disappoint.

I should also advise you that very few of the local Mexican eateries are open on Sunday. None of the three mentioned above are open Sundays. My usual Sunday lunch stop before I head back out of town is Si Senor. Not the best Mexican food in town by any means, but still pretty doggone good. Photo of Chope's is attached. It's the type of place where you'll get there, look at the outside, and think "why in the hell did that guy send me way out here...to this place? This better be good" The food speaks for itself. I would gain 15 pounds in a few days if I went to Las Cruces. My Uncle lived there for years and loved it.

I was a skinny little freshman, so no harm done. Las Cruces has a way of growing on people. It doesn't look like much at first glance - just a sleepy little college town surrounded by 50 miles of desert in any given direction - but it has a certain charm that's hard to describe. If a San Diego kid like me can go to college there and be happy, and still look forward to going back for homecoming every year, it must be saying something about the place.

I know a baseball player who was on the team last season at New Mexico State. He really liked the area and the overall atmosphere of the town and college. And of course Marvin Menzies likes it there. I really like Marvin. Man, can that guy ever recruit Socal.

A couple of Las Cruces ruffians insulted me and started trouble because I happened to bring in a hotter babe than they could get. This was at an Irish pub called Ump 88's.
How did it turn out? Well, one guy was most likely pissing blood for a week (my killer right hook....his kidney).
The other guy, after witnessing me destroy his friend, smashed a pool stick over my back. It broke over my back like it did to Schwarzenegger in "Terminator 2". I then grabbed the guy, who was about 5"11, 190, and I threw him over two tables. The sickening crack was either his wrists, the way he landed, or his arm. I am not sure.
The bouncer, rather than act like an ass, politely thanked me for handling it like a man.
I made a discreet but sincere promise to Las Cruces authorities I wouldn't return for at least ten years. I won't be at this roadie.

Las Cruces nightlife is a lot of fun Aztec70, but you undoubtedly end up with a lot of the locals that never went on to JC or 4-year schools, and just meet up at locals pubs after work. And I am talking on weekdays too. Many work in manufacturing, sheet metal unions, automotive, etc. and I am perfectly down with that. Good, salt of the earth boys. Anyways, these Las Cruces punks can be aggressive. Especially when they see you in their bar with a "9" or better and they hear you're from California. That being said, these Las Cruce punks can't match up with the mean drunks you run into down in PB, or even here in downtown Fullerton. I have noticed the SoCal boys are getting tough as nails. I think this is because MMA joints are popping up everywhere you look these days. Some of these "Tap Out" punks are doing a lot more than just wearing the shirt and driving a lifted truck. Just here in Fullerton/Anaheim area they have opened two Gracie Barra MMA schools...and it's even worse in Bro-Mecula, Menifee, those areas. These kids get in street brawls for fun, sometimes with friends, and they broadcast themselves on YouTube. I'll be 28 in August and I have a 10 month old little girl, and a cranky back. I don't want anything to do with this new breed in California. I can bench 325 and my fist can break through drywall like it was saran wrap, but I can't even lift my leg high enough to kick my kitchen table. What am I going to do against the new breed? Not a fuckin thing! For the record, I did offer to engage in a charity MMA fight with my friend K5James a year or so back. At his local workout club. It was going to be $20 a ticket, with proceeds going to the AAF. He respectfully declined. I am lucky....he probably would have taken me.
