I hadn't expected the backlash that Utah's leaving for the Pac would create among the Borg. They are really, really pissed about how much more money the Utes will be earning than them in TV rights and BCS money. Is it likely YBU will leave? No. Not within the next couple years anyway. But possible? Checking the numbers, I would definitely say yes. www.deseretnews.com/article/700052470/Independence-could-be-BYUs-best-option.html?s_cid=rss-28We're on the clock, Aztecs.

BYU would struggle to fill a 12 game slate. That alone would kill their independent thoughts.

If the MWC can keep it together and improve our sports, the BCS will have to include us. If teams start leavig the conference, we will die. All efforts by Thompson is to get the MWC into the BCS immediately. Nothing less will be acceptable. jmo

Interesting article. Could BYU exist as an independant in football? Maybe. However, what about the other sports? What conference is BYU going to join for them? If BYU thinks that the MWC would allow them to stay in the other sports they are smoking their holy underware. The PAC-12? Nope. The Big-12? Nope. The WAC? Maybe but I don't think so.
No way BYU goes independant.

No way BYU goes independant. Nothing is far fetched at this point. We have heard reports of BYU going indy in football and joining the WAC in all other sports. What makes this interesting is a recent comment from WAC commissioner Karl Benson about the WAC engaging in discussions "with a former WAC member" about re-joining the conference. If you consider a list of potential suspects, who would make sense? UTEP? Probably not, as long as Bob Stull is their AD (he hates NMSU and has gone to great lengths to stay out of the same conference as us). Tulsa? Makes some sense as they would fill in some of the geographical gap between NMSU and LA Tech, but what do they add to the WAC in terms of strength of program? None of the current MWC members would want to make the move as the WAC is a significant step down in football revenue. The only one that halfway makes sense is BYU going indy in football and joining the WAC in everything else. They're probably the only MWC member that could support themselves as an independent football program. As for the WAC, in basketball it has three very strong programs in NMSU, Utah State, and Nevada. Adding a BYU or even UTEP to the mix would make it a very viable option for either. Still, it's a longshot, but a year ago I said that Colorado and Utah moving to the PAC-10 was a longshot and look where we are today.
