I can't say I am overly-impressed with TCU's OOC schedule. They could/should have done a lot more with it given their standing and what could be at stake for them. I mean, come on... Tennessee Tech? SMU? Baylor? Even their "biggie" against Oregon State (picked to finish 3rd in the Pac 10) is basically in their back yard (at Arlington). Is this the same TCU that was taking on all-comers last year (At Clemson's Death Valley, et al)? I'm certainly not criticizing the team, I'm criticizing their scheduling. If it get down to 3-4 undefeateds at the end of the year, decision-makers are going to look at that schedule -- and then they will look elsewhere. Have a look for yourself... gofrogs.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/sched/tcu-m-footbl-sched.html

So what? This isn't basketball where there's an RPI. If the Horned Frogs run the table they have a good shot at playing in the BCS championship game and earning all of us a nice payday. In the final analysis, that's all we should care about.

Heck, take a look at Alabama's OOC schedule.
- San Jose State - Penn State - Duke - Georgia State

You guys are both missing the larger point, though in different ways.
SGF... So what? You're kidding, right? Votes of the coaches (or their SDI's) are ALL about perception. I want that BCS Championship payday as much as you, but scheduling Little Sisters of the Poor x 3 is not how you go about it.
AAA... Again, all about perception. The SEC has been blowing the hogwash for so long now about how their in-conference schedule is so tough that they have to schedule Podunk State during the preseason to rest their rippling muscles for the long-haul that those that make decisions (i.e., back east) have finally bought into it. (The Rule: Repeat something enough times, people will believe it no matter how much bullsh*t it is) Thus, if you are defending champ Alabama of the Mighty Southeastern Conference, you can schedule Duke and Georgia State, and still claim how you play the toughest schedule in the nation.
The height of having your cake, and eating it too...

It's hard to criticize TCU's schedule too much. SMU has been a long-standing rival that they play every year. Baylor is a former rival from the old SWC, and I think that they "owe" TCU a home game. (IIRC, Baylor canceled the game in Fort Worth last year, forcing them to scramble to play UVa...

Every SEC team has a cupcake schedule just about every year and they play most if not all their games at home. They have been doing that for years.

TCU is to the point where they are going to be ranked high enough and also competing with Boise they have to be undefeated (or both have a loss) and the MWC schedule should be enough to put them over the top that loading up the schedule might not be the smartest move.
I'm sure there aren't a lot of teams scrambling to get their ass handed to them either. Voters likely aren't going to put them ahead of an SEC team anyways, so they need to go undefeated and hope there are some losses hung on both teams in the SEC title game and Ohio State loses.

Agree on both points -- but there is an ocean of difference between "loading up the schedule" with the 1985 Chicago Bears across the line of scrimmage every Saturday, and just putting in decent, recognized teams (like Clemson, UVA, etc, from last season). I think they could have done something similar this season.
