The line of thinking is not "taking money from other sports at SDSU" it is investing in Basketball. Mens Basketbal is a revenue sport. Goaztec has it right, the thinking is we spend $120,000 now for possible NCAA tourney revenue. Secondly, it is home games. We may have to pay more and make less per homegame, but with the buzz around this team hopefuly we have larger crowds to offset the additional 30K we need to payout. Also, not making an NCAA tourney would have a negative affect on attendance in 2011/2012 season.

How about raising basketball ticket prices so we have more money to offer teams to come play us at Viejas?

How about raising basketball ticket prices so we have more money to offer teams to come play us at Viejas? For an individual game, sure, that would be fine with the right opponent, when you have 1/3 of the arena empty on average, it might not be the best idea for the whole season

I want to encourage past donors of "AAF" not to think of the dollars they generally donate as an investment but rather as charitable donation. I give to athletics because I want to support athletics and I know whatever dollars I give athletics helps economically SDSU as a whole. I think SDSU is a worth while charitable organization. SDSU benefits the community greatly, though education, employment of fellow San Diegans, and the University's overall economic impact. Sure I want to see greater results on the field, but I know not donating until there are more greater results does not help SDSU get to the goal of atletic excellence. Give what you can, support the Aztecs.

How about raising basketball ticket prices so we have more money to offer teams to come play us at Viejas? Because Aztec's basketball has to follow the same rules of economics as every other business in the country. Raising ticket prices could lower revenue. Ticket prices should be set at the optimum price regardless of current issues. That means they could currently be overpriced based upon supply and demand.

How about raising basketball ticket prices so we have more money to offer teams to come play us at Viejas? You only do that when sellouts are more often than not. It's basic supply and demand.

Give what you can, support the Aztecs. Thank you, akalouie! I could not agree with you more! I have always argued against soliciting donations based on "payback" such as the old tailgate format. Donations would be solicited on the basis that a $100 donation yielded so much more in the form of free beer, etc. at the tailgate. That type of solicitation/approach yields the "investment" mentality, or how big is the bang for my buck when it's not about that. People donate money to charities because they want to, because they believe in the work being done. Aztec Athletics is something that is believed in, the desire to afford the opportunity to compete to the student athlete. That gets forgotten. Thank you, akalouie. Spot on. While it is basic supply and demand, if we as fans want bigger names to come play us, we need to accept higher prices. After the complaining of adding $10 parking, I know we won't. Until then, we have to live with what we are willing to pay for.

I was there at the beginning. As Aztec Fans we wanted to build Don's program. That meant that a lot of us had to go out and raise money. It was not done for fun. I was an introvert. I hated it, but it gave me experience out side of accounting. Now I am an extrovert and I can thank Don Coryell for helping me grow. He also taught us not to be intimidated.
We have no problem getting people to tell us what to do, but we have a big problem getting volunteers to get us the resources.
It does wonders for your ego and personal growth to hang around doers.
Everyone can make a difference. We did not have a web site were all the smart people can tell us what to do. We showed up at events and offered to help in any way we could.
If we tap into our Alumni we will be fine. If we can't do that we have no hope.
Don had great volunteers follow him and it carried us for 20 years. I only recognize a few from the 70's left.
If Hoke wins new volunteers will step up. I sure had a great time hanging with the guys back then.
You got a taste when Bruce stepped up.
Now it's your turn.
Hope to see you in Missouri.
