www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/jul/28/push-is-on-to-expand-cable-channel-reach/a. first time I have ever seen a comment from TWC and it was somewhat positive to boot. The demand has to be there if Cox Orange picked up the MTN. b. Bruce Binkowski - I was surprised to see Binkies comments on the aztecs needing 7-8 to be "considered", they will not be well received by some posters on this board and some on the mesa.

It would be nice not to have to choose between Padres and Aztecs. When does Cox/TW lose exclusive rights to Padres broadcasts? Anyone know?
Poinsettia Bowl would be awesome as this town needs to learn to support the team. That way, maybe next year we would travel well to a the second bowl game in two years.

Sounds legitimate to me. I wouldn't criticize the Poinsettia Bowl for choosing a 10-win team over a 6-win SDSU.

What a load of crap. TW has had no interest in carrying the Mtn. Prior inquiries regarding this subject have only been met by the sound of crickets.
However, I really hope he isn't just blowing smoke up everyone's sphincter again.

Glad to hear they are finally talking again. Also pleased to see that the MWC and its commissioner finally realize the import of having their TV network seen in San Diego. How long has it taken for folks to wake up to that one? As for the Poinsettia Bowl, here it comes. Anathma and Heresy. I would not even expect us to go there at 6-6. At 6-6 that means we beat the three out of conference cupcakes (I know, some of you don't like that term because we too are cupcakes) and 3 of the bottom tier teams in the MWC. That kind of record doesnt justify the Poinsettia Bowl in my eyes. The victories will be as much a product of the schedule as anything else. I agree with Binkowski--call the Poinsettia Bowl when we hit 8 wins. Meanwhile, PLEASE, BRADY, END THE DROUGHT! The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

Poinsettia Bowl: Dad Hammett said a year ago they wouldn't take us at 6-6. If we finish 6-6, expect the New Mexico Bowl.

wow. I don't know about that. Especially if the opponent was Navy. That'd be a huge crowd. Prolly a P-bowl attendance record. I think they'd take us at 7-5. Because it's been so long since we've been bowling, an SDSU team which won that many would probably be able to draw close to 40K fans itself and you have to think Navy would bring in an additional 20K.

Aztecs in P-Bowl might well sell a lot of tickets, but would it sell hotel rooms? Would enough out of town alums come and fill those rooms. Hope so.

Nope. Definitely would be a hometown crowd. Hotel rooms is what the Holiday Bowl is for Aztecs in P-Bowl might well sell a lot of tickets, but would it sell hotel rooms? Would enough out of town alums come and fill those rooms. Hope so.

CSU? I know bowls say they want to fill hotels, but wouldn't 40-45K and fewer hotel rooms be better for the P-bowl than a smaller crowd? Navy has played in 2 previous PBs: vs. CSU in '05 (attendance 36,842) and vs. Utah in '07 (attendance 39,129). If it came down to BYU or Utah instead of a 7-5 SDSU, then I think they'd go with one of the beehive staters. If CSU, Wyo, UNM or UNLV, they should go with the Aztecs.

A local Bowl game gives us some money, more then a higher paying Bowl out of town.
They need to throw us a bone.

A local Bowl game gives us some money, more then a higher paying Bowl out of town. They need to throw us a bone. Seriously. So many bowls and committee's have done everything for their home town team, the fiesta bowl for ASU, the humanitarian bowl for Boise, etc; it is just like with the whole BS with conf. alignment where legislatures were doing things for their state and private schools -- our local bowls couldn't give a $#!+ about us or our conference, and our state boards and legislatures would prefer to prevent us from becoming a major university. Sucks.

Why is Navy guaranteed in at 6 wins but SDSU is not? We need 7 or 8 wins just "to be in the discussion."
Apparently, the Poinsettia is Navy's bowl far more than it is SDSU's.
