Yeah, I've seen another video of this play pulled by, I think, a high school team. One must keep in mind that a center does not have to snap the ball between his legs. I seem to recall something similar to that done by UCLA when Gary Beban was QB. Basically most of the team lined up way to the left of the ball, including the OL. Beban went to the line, picked up the ball, turned to his left, tossed the ball to an RB, and the whole gang ran down the field. The runner had about 8 blockers in front of him.
Don't think it was a TD, though. If I'm not mistaken, that is a variation of the Swinging Gate play.

As Al Luginbill said after AF went for six on the fumblerooski against us, "There's no place for trickery in college football" or something to that effect. I think if SDSU tried that play the QB would get tackled, fumble and the other team would take it for six.

I am a coach on my son's team and 2 years ago in Mighty Mite (7-9 year olds) we scouted a team and saw them do this. We told our kids that we do not want you to hurt the QB but when he walks away from the line with the ball we want 11 of you on him and make the coach rethink that play. Since each team can use their own ball, the coach instructed the QB to stand up and yell to ref that "this isn't our ball" and ask for a new one and then turn up field and go. We warned the refs ahead of time this would happen and to not acknowledge it and in the 2nd quarter they tried it. Kid was hit by 3 guys in the backfield and fumbled and their coach was screaming he was "in a vulnerable position with no blocking" and wanted the refs to blow the play dead. We suggested in the future he not put his QB in that poaition.

I am VERY proud to say that my high school's freshman football team successfully pulled this play off once in 3-consecutive seasons. Saw it with my own eyes. Good times.
