In a horrific 15 car crash at Las Vegas. Wheldon won the 2011 Indy 500. Sad day in motorsports. Only 33 years of age.

Indeed. A husband and a father. And only 33 years old, as you mentioned. Very sad to hear, and watch.

I've been heartbroken all night. Not sure if I've ever mentioned this here, but I used to race open wheel cars (road racing, not oval). One of the most exhilarating & dangerous things you could do outside of a war zone. Footage of the tragic crash explains exactly why. Just horrific. God bless Dan's family, and the whole of the IndyCar family.

Gnarly wreck. I'm actually surprised more of this doesn't happen, given the speeds these cars obtain. Just a testament to the safety engineering put into them.
