I like Brent. He is a great reporter. He digs and finds things that are relevant. You may not like the content of his articles because you have a psychological bias, but don't shoot the messenger. More like a pathological bias. SDSU is a public university and as such their finances are open to public review. People can bitch all they want, but the simple fact is taxpayer bucks are going to to the school and to the athletic program and those who pay the bucks get to be told where their bucks are going. I swear to God; as near as I can tell, this forum is slightly majority conservative and those who are would bitch constantly about the expenditure of taxpayer bucks except when it come to SDSU's athletic program. This state is in a world of hurt because of bull$#!+ pensions, many of which are associated with the prison guards' union but also pensions in general and all the public universities are hurting because of it. I talked my mother into moving here in '67 because we both hated winters but also because I knew I could get a cheap college education. That's now gone by the wayside because of the crap the unions (and again, I have a serious problem with the prison guards' union) that are bankrupting this state. =Bob

It sucks that Brent S has made this program run a huge deficit, never win a bowl game of tourney game, get 20k or so to actually go to a football game etc - what a dick. People do not like facts.

Everyone wants everything they use/care about to be free but pay for nothing that they don't use or care about.

It takes generations to flush them out.

I believe Brent is the UT Dirt Reporter. He reports on SDSU when there is negative news. He reports on Dr. Chow/Chargers/Padres when prescription drugs are involved. He reports on Ryan Leaf when no one cares any more. If its negative, he is the guy for the UT.

I am still upset at the UT for chasing away the former AD. Who cares if that AD went on a date with another lady out of town. "Went on a date?" Word is he did a little more than that. Still, I don't much care about that either. However, I DO care - a lot - that he completely bungled the most important hire of his tenure and that when it was apparent to all of us that he had done so, he nevertheless assured the guy would return for a fourth year, thereby opening the door for SteveAztec to argue - ad nauseuem - that the guy got the shaft. The guy went on a date with another lady out of town. The UT had the gall put it in the paper and the AD is gone. It was BS by BS.

And this board is very, very conservative Just to add my two cents, I would say that this particular version of Aztec Sports Boards is about the most political one I've been participating in and is also--by far--the most vocal in its political views. The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

The BS articles wouldn't be so bad if there were regular news updates on the teams/players. If you look at the the majority of Aztec articles they are depressing.
"SDSU considers cutting out-of-state recruiting" "Athletic dept. deficit leads to more SDSU layoffs"
This should be expected based on the recent performance on the field but actual news on the teams (i.e. J.J. Whittaker getting hurt) comes out much later than other news sources. Isn't the UT the home town paper?
The UT website has an Aztec Blog on its Sports page that seems to be updated once every other month. Why bother having it?

But we can agree that all is not well on the Mesa. Somebody should checking on them and their athletic department .I havent heard or read a breaking story from the campus newspaper / or reporter in a while about the scene. If people dont at least bring these things out, then the best we would get seems to be rumors

The U-T prides itself on being a Watchdog reporter. Just yesterday they had an article about how much the salaries of DA Dumanis and Sheriff Gore have gone up since 2006.
I think that BS is the sports version of their watchdog/investigative reporter. I can't recall his name, but I believe it was the soccer writer who wrote the article that SDSU needs to cut football, not BS.

This state is in a world of hurt because of bull$#!+ pensions, many of which are associated with the prison guards' union but also pensions in general And various pensions in specific. Including that which will reportedly be due to the recently resigned city manager of Bell, whose $787,000 salary is projected to pay him a pension of about $610,000 per year. (No, I'm not kidding.)

He charged it to his expense account, that is the crux of this matter; to just bypass that is absurd

You wanna go poking around a henhouse behind your wife's back? I could give two shakes. Just don't do it on the company's dime. The guy went on a date with another lady out of town. The UT had the gall put it in the paper and the AD is gone. It was BS by BS.

You wanna go poking around a henhouse behind your wife's back? I could give two shakes. Just don't do it on the company's dime. I thought that was suspected, but he denied it and it was never proved. Rather, it appeared he charged a flight and maybe a hotel to his SDSU credit card but then reimbursed the money somehow of his own accord before somebody questioned why he would have used the card for the plane trip that had nothing to do with his job. Even if that's all that happened, in combination with how badly he botched the football coach hiring (he hired Neinas for a reported $35K, then supposedly ignored the guy's recommendation and then made the infamous return guarantee in 2008) it's good riddance for such abject incompetence alone in my view.

He was using state and college funds to pay for his escapades. I could care less if he had a woman or two on the side, but to take our money to support that activity just ticks me off. When Clinton was getting his (personal favors), he did not put the bill on the American Taxpayer. Thus it was his and his woman's business and none of ours. Schemmel was a horse of a different odor. -Let's try to keep the unnecessary, unrelated political comments on the political board. We do get complaints...
