If I can jump in here, I'll just say that although $11 isn't squat to most of us (I sometimes spend more than that at Starbucks in a day), we don't know bill456's economic situation. For example, my first job out of SDSU was as the sole professional staff person for a small nonprofit which had very little money to offer - which is primarily why I got the gig. It didn't pay anything but it was great experience and dad SGF was 100% correct in encouraging me to take it. Anyway, as a result, I had to scrimp and save in any way I could to make ends meet during the two years I worked there until getting a resume which allowed me to change jobs and get about a 50% raise. Maybe bill456 is in similar circumstances or maybe he's been laid off and can't find anything in this terrible economy. 11 bucks is a choice between going to a movie, going out to eat, buying a dvd, etc. It is not a lot of money.

We try to get Subway and bring in waters, but try to add a friend or two so the kids have fun, well, you see what I mean. Ice cream or some treat feels inevitable, and honestly, that's why one or two Padres games a year and close to all of the Aztec games is about all this dad can handle on our budget. But it's a commitment to Aztec football that keeps me bringing my family.

I think all he was saying is that, at $11 per ticket and being a fan, there is no reason why you, A FAN, should not be there to support YOUR team. Maybe he didn't make that clear, I'm sure he is sorry for the confusion. All I was saying is that, at $5 per ticket and being a fan, there is no reason why I, A FAN, should not be there to support MY team. Maybe I didn't make that clear, so sorry for the confusion.[/quote Let him speak for himself. Maybe this was not the game that I wanted to go to. Yes $11 dollars is a great deal for a college football game, no one said it wasn't. But when you hear what the school is going through right now with money woes and they drop the ticket price to $5, why not make the effort to be at game, even if it's not that appealing. Supporting the school's efforts to fill the seats is all I'm talking about.

Honestly, based on the experiences of my profession, I don't give a damn who the Aztecs are playing on the opener. I am just thankful that I am healthy enough to make it to the game and support my team and school. I will scream just as loud and chant the fight song just as proud, regardless if we are playing Nicholls State or Notre Dame.
I can tell you this - If we are fortunate enough to make that engagement with a bowl game this year, you will appreciate the fact that you were present at any of the games, home or away, and money will become an insignificant factor.
Go Aztecs......Fight On.

I will. But he basically confirmed what I was thinking. And when you here "what the school is going through with money woes", wouldn't going to the $11 games help, I don't know, TWICE as more than just going to the $5 ones. Every game is appealing to me. We only get 6 a year. Why not make the effort to attend them all. Let him speak for himself. Maybe this was not the game that I wanted to go to. Regardless of the "quality" of the opponent. I turely didn't think that a savings of $6 would be the deciding factor of whether to go to a game or not.

For true college football fans price is meaningless...and to be talking about $5 tickets vs any other price is silly and an embarrasment to the program, the players, the coaches and fans. Get your rear ends in the stadium and make the college football game an experience any recruit would want to be a part of...
Why do Aztecs fans have so many restrictions on being a fan? I often hear I'd be a fan but... -they are not a good football team -they don't win enough games -they never go to bowl games -they have no defense -blah, blah, blah
College football is about the experience. San Diego State has plenty of alumni and tradition to support a program, it's the fans fault (not the program) that we do not attract quality recruits.
Sponsors will pour money into a program that can get them exposure. Having sour fans and 10k in attendance doesn't excite businesses to support our program. Period.
These are kids and they feed off the excitement in the building, we as fans, are letting them down.
