My little brother is at the Phillies / Rockies game in the Dupont box next to the Phils GM box. The just pulled Werth from the game and he overheard a conversation that the deal had just be sealed Werth to the Padres. Of course that's my little brother, and by now, how should be $#!+ faced

Cubs trying to dump Ryan Theriot. No. Please no. No power, no Walks, no Range. His .281 BA is an illusion.

No truth to the rumor, and he wants top 5 outfielder money in free agency. 2 month rental, no thanks.

Werth is a plus mlb outfielder but nothing more. he also plays in philly so going from one of the best hitters parks to the worst hitters park in baseball will influence his numbers.
if we can get him at the right price, then go for it. but I don't know if I would want to give up Castro.

Castro would be a major over pay. That is not the right price. I don't know what Werth is Worth but not that.

No truth to the rumor, and he wants top 5 outfielder money in free agency. 2 month rental, no thanks. Doesn't mean he'll get it. His home vs. road OPS difference is huge (sub .800 on the road), playing in that Philly bandbox helps a lot. He may not get the big deal he desires. Don't get me wrong, he is a solid player and I would love to get him in LF, but not for Simon Castro. For a pending free agent, I would offer two to three good prospects, but not our top minor league pitching prospect.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. He may not get the deal, but I was just referencing his desire to be paid as one of the top outfielders out there. Castro is too steep of a price to pay.

Even if true a nothing deal, Hes been at his best as a fourth Outfielder... Impact guts to get you over the hump are far and few.. jose guilen is a dude, but you got to pay some money for him ..

Two that the Padres aquired were "impact guys": 1. Greg Vaughn 2. Milton Bradley Both were very good pickups late in the year. Vaughn was much better a couple of years later when he hit 50 home runs for the Padres. Milton was very good the year we got him (.326 BA) until Bud Black made sure he would touch an umpire by wreckng his knee.

Fourth OF my ass. He's not an elite player, but definitely a high caliber guy. And then in your next sentence you act as if Guillen is legit. Too bad Guillen's OPS is an average .790 compared to Werth's .880, and Guillens OBP is also 50 points lower than Werths. Ballpark difference and all, that's a big gap. Guillen only has about $5M remaining on his contract, and word is the Royals would be willing to pay some of it, but no teams are showing much interest except the Giants. I wouldn't touch Guillen. He's awful defensively, and has cooled down big time since April/May. He is very inconsistent and goes into massive slumps. He's only hit 5 homers in June and July, what good would he be in Petco, especially since he won't take a walk? No thanks. sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/5753/splits;_ylt=ApvSJ.kKkQhkbUkplKscUxeFCLcF

Don't want Werth his value is inflated by playing in Philly. Just look at his home/away splits.
Home: .314/.392/.604/.996 Away: .259/.365/.414/.779
Not saying Guillen is better, just don't want Werth unless we can get him cheap and that's unlikely.

This is true, and I referenced it above, but his OBP is still good on the road, which to me shows good plate discipline....and his road OPS is about the same as Guillens total OPS of .790.

Guillen's road splits are better than his home splits: Home: .254/.316/.450/.766 Away: .287/.346/.467/.813 Lower OBP but Guillen will most likely cost a lot less to acquire, especially because of his salary. I look at Werth's numbers when he was a Dodger and that's pretty much what I'd expect we'd get out of him if we got him (low .800 OPS). But if the asking price was equal, I'd take Werth simply because he's a better fielder.
