In the past two decades, Al was like a stock investor when it came to choosing talent for his team -- a stock investor who almost always lost money. (exception 2000 - 02)

Somehow I think he's still going to manage to be involved in personnel and draft decisions.

I sure hope he still gets involved. I hate the Raiders and he has been the best thing for the Chargers over the years.

Somehow I think he's still going to manage to be involved in personnel and draft decisions. You wish (if you are a Charger fan.) If I remember right a partnership owned the Raiders. Davis used to have a ridiculous title for his position that I can not remember, something like the "Chief Partner to the General Partnership." Regardless of the title, my fear is that under new leadership, the Raiders will return to being the biggest thorn in the flesh of the Chargers.

Aloha Al.....I am sure this will have huge effect on the organization. I bet the team wears black for this weeks game. There will be some size medium white jumpsuits available at a bay area Goodwill store soon.

If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all. So, I'll shut up now.

Al has made sure that controlling interest in the Raiders is now in the hands of his son. No idea if his ego will get in the way of a winning team.

RIP Mr. Al Davis. He was one of the original Chargers responsible for landing Lance Alworth, the greatest Charger ever and first AFL hall of famer.

He also helped the Chargers in this sense. Before Davis was hired to coach the Raiders they were just awful. Bad enough they were losing money like a sieve with the possibility they would move. He turned that around immediately and the resulting rivalry became one of the great ones in football.

He was smart enough to hire an Aztec coach...RIP and Go Chargers! HAM That he truely was! He hired our defensive coach, a young man you may remember who lead his Ray-duhs to their first Super-Bowl Victory! A man by the name of John Madden. Davis was either highly loved, or highly hated by many, but you cannot deny his total impact on the professional game of football. He was different, and unique in everything he did. I just wonder who will take over as the managing leader of the Raiders now, and what will happen with them?

He was the first owner to hire an Aferican-American Head coach in the NFL. Also the first to recruit an Aferican American QB in major college football.
He also coached the San Diego Chargers under Gilman.
He gave to the community and people were very loyal to him. He even got his hair cut at the same Montclair barber shop that my goes to. Walks in, talks to the locals and gets his hair cut.
Hopefully then Oakland Raider leadership grou[p will continue his work to build a new stadium at the same site as the Colliseum.
