Saw it a few nights ago. As a movie it was pretty well done, Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill were both great, I was surprised to see Phillip Seymore Hoffman in it as well. It was a good watch worth the price of admission.
From a baseball perspective it was pretty lame. I never read the book so maybe I'm missing something here but reasons #1-5 why the A's were so good that year were Zito, Hudson, Moulder, Chavez, and Tejada. In the movie you barely see a glimpse of any of them. The movie focuses around Scott Hattaburg vs Carlos Pena on the offensive end.
The idea that Billy Beane is a mathetmatical genius for what he did to the A's so overrated IMO. It's a nice theory with some evidence of working but to think that the success of the A's had to do with their offense is bogus.
What I did appreciate about the movie is the fact that Bill James is mentioned all over the place. It's not like it hypes Billy Bean as the inventor of this stuff.

Apparently Art Howe isn't happy with his portrayal in the movie.
I agree that Billy Beane is perhaps the most overrated GM in history. Once the A's became full of his players they became garbage, and he received almost no impact players when trading the stars he inherited.
