Took my son and his girlfriend for an informal campus tour Sunday. It is a much more attractive campus now than in the 1960's. Rose gardens, lots more trees, little park like settings. I was impressed.

The intent is to give it a village feel by among other things having entrances to the buildings face inward. You get that same feel at Cal Poly SLO. OTOH, the first thing you see after driving down the street toward the Pomona campus is a huge parking lot which gives it the feel of just a big JC.
BTW, although small, Channel Islands also has the village feel since it was originally a state hospital and therefore separated from everything around it.

My first informal tour of SDSU was a Morrissey concert at then Cox Arena in winter 99. Got to know it better, when my sister started the following fall. Still think it's one of the nicer CSU campuses. I really like how my Alma Mater is nestled among the top of the SGV hills, but the generic/industrial architecture that the CSU used for all of it's post WWII campuses doesn't give you the idealistic and academic ambiance that brick buildings of pre WWII campuses give you.

couple years ago I toured dozens of colleges picking out a grad school; I'd put the overall quality of SDSU on par with any of them - west, midwest and east. The new Aztec center and the eventual bomb that is going to be dropped on Adams will only make it better
