I am sorry but did Hoke not recruit a stable of wide receivers over the past 3 years? I am sure it did not appear to be a major need when he took over but he left the cubbard very bear. Similar to Dorrell leaving the O line bear at UCLA.
Michigan should be ready for these holes in recruiting. These are the types of things that Saban, Miles, Mack Brown do not allow to happen in their programs.
Lets not forget that Brown and Sampson were Chuck's guys.

Injuries and a non qualifier put us in a hole this year at wide receiver. But you are right we are a little lacking.

meh, he was only here 2 years and there were a lot of holes to fill. I'm not going to blame or praise him for recruiting because ostensibly he only had one class

The were plenty of washouts from previous classes compunded wth injuries to projected starters and academic issues. WR is definitely an issue. Know any walk ons??

We've taken big hits in injuries and academics at WR and CB. He recruited a lot, but we can't seem to get them on the field. And some guys who have stuck around, like Osmand Nicholas, don't appear to have what it takes to crack into the rotation.
BTW, the paper said we've offered the WR at Santana.

Lets not forget that Brown and Sampson were Chuck's guys. Actually, Sampson was a Tom Craft Recruit. Tom also visited Brown in high school. He was on the Aztec Radar from early 2005 high school season on. Tom brought in the Greatest Recruiting classes in Aztec History. Unfortunately his First actual recruiting class were only Redshirt Sophomores when Tom was fired. The linemen, receivers, skill position people that Tom brought in were the best of the best we had seen since Luginbill's staff brought in a kid by the first name of Marshall.

That we are short of receivers is obvious. As noted here we have lost several over the course of the last year or so. We'll never know if they would have made a difference because we simply never got a chance to see them--with the exception of Sandifer. It's not just the WR's that are lacking either, our TE's are not producing at the level we all anticipated. Umolo simply has not come back from his injuries and Escobar has become inconsistent in his ability to hold onto the ball. Hopefully what is required is "mileage", ie playing together. If we are still performing as poorly at the end of the season then... The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

I can only hope that some stud-receiver in the making saw that game, maybe did a little research on this San Diego State team he's never heard of and thinks "Hey I can go there a play right now, instead of riding the bench at _______(fill in the blank with any big time program)." Though the realist in me knows most of the guys that pick those schools don't have the mindset that they will ride the pine...if anything they're more inclined to do just that and wait for "their shot" to shine. But again showing his honesty, Rocky spoke about our deficiencies at receiver during the summer. His main complaint...too many dropped passes. So I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that we are seeing what we are seeing right now from the receiving corps. We are in desperation mode, point to moving a defender to the offensive side of the ball. What do you call a receiver that can't catch...oh yeah a CORNER BACK...he was on defense for a reason. But sadly right now Lockett is the best bet we have at a home run threat at receiver unless someone steps up. If not it's going to be a rough go the rest of the season. A future pro player at quarterback means nothing if he has no one to throw it to.

No, I don't believe that. Both Denso, and Lockett had 7 catches yesterday, and Colin did score the only TD. Our WR's just need more time, and experience. The fact that the whole team suffered competing well in the game and nothing to do with our OL, and DL being outmuscled by better players on the other side did it?
