Actually new Unemployment Insurance Claims went down last week if you use the actual numbers as reported by the States.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 498,022 in the week ending July 17, a decrease of 13,113 from the previous week.

The fact remains that half a Million newly unemployed file for UI each week. This has gone on now for years. I see no improvement coming our way.
