Guessing it's all going to matter how Jackson will comeback he might be a hundred percent but he still has to get his leg under him. . . But Hoke wanted to get bigger up front to help stop the run and having two 290 lbs guys upfront should help. But as someone has said already we should have a pretty good rotation with these guys and i think one of the true frosh will play Thomas or Beed

On what grounds do you say that? Lawson went from the inside to the outside. I think Jerome Long beat him out. Perry Jackson is a 4 star and BJ Williams has been our best pass rusher. A couple reasons, 1. looking at the stats from last year: Williams - 2.5 sacks, 4.5 TFL Lawson - 2.0 sacks, 6.5 TFL Williams played on the edge and his job was to get pressure. Lawson played NT so his job was to control the middle. If you look at their numbers, I would argue Lawson was as good if not better, and this coming from the NT spot. 2. In watching all the games last year, Lawson looked like the best linemen. He seemed to get penetration and he was very physical. Williams seemed to struggle some last year as evidenced by his relatively low 2.5 sacks from a DE. I assume that part of the problem for Williams was learning the new system so I expect him to be much better this year. Even still, I think Lawson will be our best DL. With regards to Long beating out Lawson, I don't think that is what happened. I think Hoke saw that Long and Spencer could handle NT, so that gave him the chance to move Lawson outside where he could make more of an impact. Also, at the event at Manhattan Beach, Hoke seemed very excited about Lawson and his move to the outside. He didn't sound like Lawson was beat out by anyone.

BJ Williams should have better numbers than 2.5 sacks and 4.5 TFL as a starting DE. I don't think he's lived up to his potential. That being said, I don't think any of us know how good Jackson is until he lines up against D1 players.

He may have been starting last year but late in the season BJ was not seeing the field a whole lot. This may be one of those rare cases where a guy ends up playing more as a freshman than a senior.

And that happens when you have more depth. When BJ Williams was a frosh and soph, we had the least depth I've ever seen (with experience) on a D1 football team. The injuries made a team with no depth even worse (the reason that a 70-7 game happens ).

This may be one of those rare cases where a guy ends up playing more as a freshman than a senior. that is wrong. BJ got just as much playing time as the other starters. There is a rotation that rocky long has. So about every 4-5 plays..every single player on defense comes out and then 2nd wave comes in. then the 1st wave comes back in after they get their reps. so its really hard to say who is a starter because really, we had 22 starters on defense last year.

No question that he came into his own as a Soph. Did he have as good a player on the other side so he wouldn't be double teamed last year? No. He'll have a monster year this year because of Jackson.
