he would have to be crazy!!!!! csn plays on a high school field. i would not put much thought into losing him as he loves it here and lives a couple of blocks from the school.

This would be a disaster if he leaves in my opinion. I hope he stays to build up the program.

But if you want to be a head coach, you have to take the opportunity when it comes up. If he gets an offer, I think he goes.

Nobody goes through the assistant coaching circles to be a lifer assistant at SDSU !! Not that kind of prestige with that Job or school. He would at least make double-at least double the money as a HC at say, a Monterey Bay! If it presents itself , he has to take it..

I mean what does he do so special that no other univerity level assistant doesnt do too? The people who should be upset is the UCSD people iif their guy Obrien leaves.. that would be an impossible guy to follow their with all of their success and limitiations.. a disaster is a bit much dont you think..

They may play in a dump ,but it still is a good program andthey are in a tough conference -The Big West which is far more competitive than the MWC.. no doubt it would be a challenge to recruit , but kids that play in that conference tend to be a bit tougher than the ones that end up at sdsu..I dont think they care . Really, It would a move up.. they have big expectations and have been ranked nationally .I mean they fired their coach after he had two plus 500 win seasons in a row playing in their conference and against top pac 10 school.. a ough crowd

Not every coach wants to be a head coach - Ernie Zampezi is a perfect example of that. Not everyone is cut out to be an HC - it's just that many don't recognize that. =Bob

I don't think Valenzuela came to State to work for Tony for 10 years. He came to add to his resume. Even if it was a lateral move last summer, it shows that he wasn't interested in just being Rich Hill's pitching coach.
If they offer him the job, I think he'll take it.

I have met Eric a couple of times and I like him. Down to earth, straight up coach. He was in the process of landing top arms for the Mesa, and I liked the direction he is headed. I just hope he sticks around for a few years. The college game is all about pitching, and he is the guy to help load up with quality arms. We have seen what happens when you do not have this.

Besides, I'd suspect that if O'Brien wants it, he'll get it. =Bob
