How much of one's income should be paid in taxes? It's an age-old question that will be discussed and debated forever, I guess. Clearly, there is a distinction between the thinking of the Right and the Left on this issue. For the Left, attacking the rich is never out of season. According to that narrative, the rich never pay their fair share. But the Left is either extremely naive with respect to this issue or down right dishonest. The fact is that the really, really rich people, such as the Ketchup Lady, have ways of hiding their income, avoiding taxes, etc. The merely very well off are the ones who are more seriously hurt by rising tax rates. And it's often those people who makes several hundred thousand a year (a nice figure, to be sure) who are starting and expanding new businesses. As anyone who is even moderately well informed must know, it's the small businesses that create most of the new jobs. The linked piece contains some interesting facts and figures that should not be ignored in this debate. www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2009/09/02/obamas_soak_the_rich_mentality/?comments=allAzWm
