Years ago, six months or more before the season I was always a Rah Rah Cheering Fan and would hope for a ten win season like we used to have with Claude Gilbert before he was fired.
As the season approached, I would always offer a realistic assessment of the team potential.
For the past two years I have been so bumbed out that I have lost contact with who and what and where.
Still, my assessments are usually spot on, so if I can find time I will go down and see what the lines look like and with that information tell you guys if we have a snowball's chance in Hell of winning anything.
I do know we brought in a 300 pound Polynesian to play in the line. That is a step in the right direction. Hell, bring in a few more, and we will go to Bowl Games every season. They are like bulldozers. They go where they want to go. Why we do not go to Samoa and bring back three or four linemen every year I have never understood.

What happens when the opposition's defense has as many Samoans as our offense?

Maybe I'm wrong. But didn't we have 2 Samoans on the "O" line last year (Iosefa & Matamua) and how good was our line last year?

I had totally tuned out the Aztecs. I will try to get with the program again, IF I can find time. The Wife is talking about cruising the Caribbean. I still want to get back to Easter Island to do some research. Oh, the World Famous quote that is rightfully attributed to me goes as follows, "In High School and College Football, the team with the most Samoans usually wins." Remember the USUALLY. Years ago when I went to Escondido High, we usually lost to Oceanside High. One season Oceanside had ten Samoans on Defense at one time. We did not stand a chance. When they built the second high school in Oceanside, the rest of the north county was relieved. The Oceanside Samoan community spilled over into Vista by the late Sixties and from there into San Marcos and Escondido by the early Seventies. We are three generations down the road from the initial influx of Samoans who arrived here after World War Two when they started going into the Marines in heavy numbers. The original Oceanside Samoan community was there because of the proximity to Camp Pendleton. There was also a fairly large Samoan community in the National City-Chula Vista area in the Sixties. I have lost track of many people in that group, but I suspect they are still there, probably just spread out to a wider area. In 1960 when the San Diego CIF was separated from the Southern Section (Greater LA area), Escondido was placed in the (Large School) Metropolitan League, while Oceanside and Vista stayed in the Small School Avocado League. The Escondido Fans were relieved that we did not have to play Oceanside for the Championship back then. All we had to do was play the Big South Bay Schools. Chula Vista, Sweetwater..... We were the only school from the north county that had to travel forty miles to any AWAY league game. We found that Sweetwater had Samoans when we played them in 1960, but thank heavens they did not have as many as Oceanside. You always came out of games against Samoan populated schools with a lot more bruises and injuries than the other schools. In 1960 Escondido won the Large School CIF Championship with a systematic trouncing of Point Loma, even though we were technically a Small School. We were glad we did not have to face Oceanside. Anybody but Oceanside.
