He is referring to Jamaal Franklin... who, athletically appears to be ahead of Shelley,or anyone else on the team for that matter. Also, in high school, was every bit the scorer that Shelley was (comparing their senior season). I have no idea what kind of jumper Jamaal has, but it would be hard to be any worse than Shelley's. I watched Tyrone a bunch of times in high school and he never really had a great jump shot. He was just a vicious scorer. I dont know that we upgraded by losing Shelley, but we are definitely not going to suffer from his departure. Personally, I was a little shocked/bummed out to see him go. Agree that we didn't upgrade by losing Shelley.....And agree we won't suffer from his departure (overall)....And I am very bummed to see him go. The guy can score and rebound. I sort of disagree on his jumper. He was really effected by his foot injury last year in many area, including his outside shooting. I also saw him play 4 or 5 times in high school. While I never considered him a great outside shooter, I did think he was a fairly good outside shooter. If Shelley was healthy this season, I do not think Jamaal Franklin would move ahead of him in the lineup. The good news (as reported by a poster above) is that we are a point in our program where we can lose a Tyrone Shelley and it doesn't kill us.

And the last time that happened was? Better yet, when was the last time we BEAT a good team? One with a winning record? I'm just saying. Last time we beat a team with a winning record in Football? I can't remember. Last time we won a NCAA Basketball game. I ALSO can't remember! 11/3/07 SDSU beat a 5-3 WYO team

You don't think a completely healthy Tyrone Shelley would have got time this year? And on Franklin, are you talking about LaBradford or Jamaal? As for why Fisher didn't beg him to stay? Obvious, we are loaded and if a kid wants to go, you let him go. If you only have three or four good players, you beg the kid to stay. I don't think so, Shelley didn't think so, Fisher didn't think so. I'm talking about the Franklin that will play Shelley's position but has a better handle, is a better shooter and a better athlete .. Jamaal. If Fisher had said to Shelley "you will be our starting guard again this year, we need you, don't leave" ... he would still be on the team. 1. I do think so, Shelley wasn't sure, and we really don't know what Fisher was thinking. I assume he knows we are deep enough that he doesn't have to beg for players anymore. 2. This one is interesting...I don't think Jamaal is as good of shooter as Tyrone and not sure he is as good of scorer as Tyrone. He is probably more athletic than Shelley, but not by much. Can he out jump Shelley? Hell yeah......Is he stronger than Shelley? No.....Is he faster than Shelley?....I doubt it. 3. Why would Fisher tell Shelley that if he wanted him to stay or didn't want him to stay? Answer, he wouldn't in either situation. Fisher and Shelley sat down, Shelley said he wasn't happy.....Fisher didn't give him the news he wanted to hear.....Shelley decided to transfer. Fisher isn't going to tell Shelley he is starting, after he lost his starting job to Chase Tapley. That doesn't mean Tyrone wouldn't have got 15-20 minutes.

I don't want to hate on Shelley, he is a solid player and person. However Shelley has a score first, straight gunner mentality which did not sit well with Fisher who wanted to play inside-out last year and allowed Tapley to get into the starting lineup. From what I have seen about Franklin he gets most of his buckets on steals, put-backs and simply outhustling his opponents on garbage plays. I think Franklin is the type of player that ... even if you never run an offensive play for him, he still gets you 12pts and 6rbs on hustle and sheer athleticism.

they may have had a winning record when we played them, but they weren't a good team. Ended up 5-7. Last time we beat a team with a winning record in Football? I can't remember. Last time we won a NCAA Basketball game. I ALSO can't remember! 11/3/07 SDSU beat a 5-3 WYO team

Not having seen the football team practice, or scrimmage yet makes me a little unsure if they have
type of team to even make it to a Bowl game. So, I 'm out on a limb on that. We will see later. BB
there is no doubt we have the team to do so. It will be a glorious year for both teams if they can do it!

It's funny that there are not more votes for FOOTBALL.

It's funny that there are not more votes for FOOTBALL. I'm a FB 7 days a week type of guy and I went with the bball option. That program is miles ahead of the FB program at the moment. Hokefully, that distance is going to close rapidly in the next few years.

Just think about how most people on this board think that Football will win 6 games this year....then add one more game against a similar 6 win football program in a bowl at home in SD. Sounds possible to me. Now look at the NCAA tournament, we Will be going out of town and depending if we get a halfway decent seed (which we never have before) we may be playing DUKE in North Carolina. That is a tough order for any basketball team. I just wonder why more people don't think it may happen for football, AT LEAST FOOTBALL HAS WON A BOWL GAME BEFORE.

I am glad to see the enthusiasm, a good number of people think both will happen.
Even though I agree that both WILL happen this year (exciting!). It is kind of a cop out to say both will happen (even though I made it an option). The question is which is MORE LIKELY.
GO AZTECS! Best athletic year EVER!!??!! Even in this economy.

It's funny that there are not more votes for FOOTBALL. I disagree. If this were a popularity contest, I would have voted for football since that's my favorite sport. However, it's a reality contest and although I think we're going to finally win an NCAA tournament game or two this year in BB, I just don't think we're going to go bowling until 2011.

Gotta go with b-ball. Football will get to a bowl, whether they win it or not depends on the bowl they reach
