Many on this board wanted to see SDSU build a 40,000 seat stadium. They were thinking to small. I think are break was 40,000 3 years ago. Now salaries and tuition has gone way up.
We can't afford a 40,000 seat stadium and we need one even bigger.
I we want to be big time we need to draw 50,000 per game.
Our first game was 43,000 in the Valley. We had plans for expanding to 40,000 from 12,000.
We had to go to the Valley and our first game showed us to give up on expansion.
If we get to be a BCS team we need to work with the City some how.
Many of you wanted to reduce the Q down to 40,000.
Would getting a new Stadium help us get in the Pac 12 or Big 12.
We need to talk up where we are going.
I hope Rocky can get us there.

Putting the stadium aside for a minute - assuming we had a place to play - would we get more fan support if the chargers did move to la?

Putting the stadium aside for a minute - assuming we had a place to play - would we get more fan support if the chargers did move to la? Maybe. Pro football is an entirely different ballgame, so to speak. So the diehard football fans might eventually need a football fix and come out for games. But for those who need to dress the part on Sundays, an Aztec game, regardless of the level of play for the team, will never quite be good enough. The section where we sit is great, but the demographics feel like those on a cruise ship - lots of elderly white fans. Median age is probably 60. That's fine, but it's not the Chargers' crowd. And I thank those over 60 who have put up with this program through thick and thin - and still come out on Saturday nights. Lots of respect for them and their support. It's always sad to start the season and find that someone is "missing" from the immediate area. We wonder if they just got too old to come out, or just couldn't afford the games anymore. Or worse yet, that they're maybe not here anymore. And then I wonder how we'll deal with it when we get there.

i have said this a few times....something a lot of people dont realize about san diego is that the sdsu alumni in san diego keep on growing. sdsu alumn stay in san diego after college. where as the san diegans (charger fans) doesnt.
If the aztecs continue winning and make a winning tradition here, even if the chargers would stay, you would eventually have so many sdsu alumni living in san diego, that qualcomm would easily be filled to capacity. Obviously this hinges on the aztecs winning.

As far as pro football goes in San Diego... personally I am not a Pro fan... college all the way! I wouldn't really care if the Chargers left... that being said they provide many jobs for San Diego and do some good things for the community. I think SDSU would draw many more fans if they left because they would be the only "show" in town... pun intended. USC is a prime example... top notch football and no Pro team... known as the Pro team for LA... that could be SDSU if they turn into a consistent winner. Stadium for SDSU Currently, I don't' have a problem with what we have... it's great. There was an interesting article in the UT a couple of years ago. www.signonsandiego.com/news/2009/aug/01/1n1qualcomm22273-sdsu-might-expand-campus-stadium-/?education&zIndex=142239I love this idea... an extension of SDSU campus! If we needed to knock down the Q and build a more intimate college stadium that would be SWEET! in the 50,000 to 60,000 seat range. Went to a Stanford game last year and it was perfect (seats 50,000 max). A smaller stadium is great. We wouldn't need all the extra parking spaces and could build student housing and education buildings and parking structures. Would still want some parking or build in architecture that would allow for a College GameDay environment. A big problem with this would be the environmental problem with the oil wells next to the Q. All kinds of issues with it and cleanup will be big $$. If the City of San Diego and SDSU could pull this off.... WATCH OUT! We would become a national power baby! One can dream!

Really nice stadium. I'm guessing $1.0B to $1.5B. Anyone really know?

Obviously this hinges on the aztecs winning. I'd like to see statistics on that. Most of the people I still keep in touch left san diego within a few years of graduation. Small sample size I know but even while attending school most of the people I came across mentioned leaving in the future. Actually I'd guess the exact opposite as you. A typical Charger fan probably grew up in SD and would be less likely to leave than an SDSU student who may have grown up in SD, LA, OC, SF, etc.

Isn't there a Federal study of some sort or perhaps some money that could be allocated from the Fed. Gov. or State of California to determine the final answer on this?

Win and they'll show up, just look at how much attendance has jumped after just 1 winning season. I don't think the Chargers being here will impact it much one way or the other. If SDSU were Boise St or TCU good the last few years we'd be averaging at least 60k imo.

Aztecsrule72001,
You are dead wrong. We would be averaging 70k per game.

Really nice stadium. I'm guessing $1.0B to $1.5B. Anyone really know? They claim ~$990 million, but I'm sure that will increase quite a bit once they actually start building it.

Either we help pay for a new stadium or we play at Petco. You decide.

The same basic problems with the location are going to be at the new location sans the "ghetto" people who live around the stadiums. There is nothing to do and no public transportation
