I hope this isn't a misprint.

I don't think I have ever seen any poll ever with our hoops team ranked so high. That's because before this year, you've never seen a poll with our hoops team ranked, let alone ranked high. I know we've had this discussion before on Aztectalk/mesa, but I don't believe the hoops team has ever been ranked. I recall an 8-1 start during the Cage years in which we were knocking on the door, but I don't think we ever busted through. I believe I've seen something posted that we were ranked back in '76 or '74, but I haven't seen any confirmation on that. This would be huge for the program and the school if this team were able to spend much of the season in the polls. Can't wait.

please be aware this 'expert' predicts that Tyler Hawes of BYU "will only get better" ... (which will be tough considering he'll be in Argentina on his mission for 2 years) and UNLV "returns everyone of note: ... (not if Willis is in jail or kicked off the team).
SDSU should start the year ranked, and BYU and UNLV will both be solid again and challenge for the MW title. But clearly this guy hasn't done all his research, so it's hard to believe his predicted #16 ranking is accurate.
I love the respect but I predict we will be ranked in the 20's to start the year and I think both Washington and Gonzaga will be ranked above us on the west coast.

Interesting that the two right below us are Tennessee and Baylor.

i thought they were one in the same and so didn't bother to check it, and based on Pokey's points - it is not credible; but, what it does point to is that media (even lousy ones) are hearing our name and so before I thought we'd get votes, now I do believe we'll be ranked.

Of course then it was the Top 20 and not the Top 25.

Interesting that the two right below us are Tennessee and Baylor. And K-State is No. 4.

When the “official” pre-season polls come out and have us ranked in the top 25, this will help generate national publicity for our bball program. If we can maintain our top 25 ranking and even climb the polls, it will help spawn excitement with our fair-weather fans and even gain new non-Aztec fans as well. However, if we manage to win a game or more in the NCAA Tournament, I believe it will be the turning point we’ve all been waiting for in terms of seeing our program finally get over that “hurdle.”
Coach Fischer built a solid and strong foundation. It may have taken him longer that he (and we) hoped and desired but I think we have a program we can all be proud of.

The real turning point will be when we start talking about expanding Viejas Arena ;D If we pack our arena consistently, then that would be the result of our program sustaining its high level of attraction. Personally, I think the size of our arena is fine as is. We simply just have to make it more intimidating by creating a more hostile environment for opposing teams. The Show gets a lot of kudos for establishing a fun yet somewhat inhospitable environment, but if we can constantly get 6k - 7k students to attend and sell out all our home games, then the arena would easily be "The place to be" on game days/nights.

Not to take the comment too seriously, or get ahead of ourselves, but Viejas Arena will never realistically be expanded. Because of the engineering of the building, 'expanding' would be akin to building anew.
It was discussed internally many many years ago about adding luxury suites around the top, and it wasn't really feasible.
Go Aztecs!

That type of expansion has always seemed like the only reasonable option; why is it not feasible? It would seem that all it would be is framing a room and putting them in between the aisles, maybe even creating all or some vomatoria and having some stadium club type places.

Greivis Vasquez played for Venezuela high school then for Maryland (NCAA) now for Memphis (NBA) I'm not sure if he ever played against a Mountain West team or knows where the MW is, but ... good to see the MWC getting juice. Shout out to Trimaine Davis and Markee White.

Don't expand it, just fill it. Make it the hard to get ticket.
