Arrogance; that's my answer. Barack Obama, and a very large percentage of the Left (certainly the far Left) believe that they are the vanguard of a transformative revolution and those hicks out in flyover country are just too dimwitted to get it. Well, how else can one interpret Obama's "they cling to their guns and religion" comment other than that it is indicative of immense arrogance and condescension? But don't take my word for it. www.nytimes.com/2009/09/01/opinion/01brooks.html?_r=1&ref=opinionAzWm

All patent nonsense. It comes down to one thing - jobs. Americans have very limited patience and an even more limited attention span. In January, 1983, Reagan's popularity rating was 35 percent. Why? Because we were in an ugly recession and Reagan's policies to that point had not done much to get us out of it in the view of the large number of people who were out of work or felt their jobs were threatened.
You can offer this or that about "arrogance" or most any other thing you want, but it's all about jobs, Will, and if you don't understand that, you understand nothing about American politics.

Employment is crucial, sure. But there are other issues that can trump even employment. If that were noit true, then a leader could say "If you just let me make your important decisions for you, I will guarantee that you will always have a job." No, the people are smart enough to realize that such a promise is ridiculous. Strangely enough (from the perspective of the far Left), most people do not want to be treated as idiots or little children. AzWm

It is about jobs and the waning confidence that Obama's policies will deliver any.
