For the 11th consecutive season www.HiTekRadio.com will bring you Vista Panther football every friday night! Well, except for this week - this week's game will be on Saturday, 9/03/11. Vista will be playing a tough team from Hawaii, and the Hawaiian team requested a Saturday game day to make it easier for them (jet lag and all - plus they didn't want to have to miss an additional day of school to get in to San Diego on Thursday). But every other week you can catch Vista Panther football on www.hitekradio.com - check it out! The play by play during the 2nd and 4th quarters is exceptionally good! (During the 1st and 3rd quarters it's acceptable. )

The school from Hawaii is the Punahou School, founded in 1841. Its most famous alumnus is one Barrack Hussein Obama!
The Sons of Oahu (their FB team is called that; the school wide moniker is the Buffnblu) have already played THREE GAMES as they face the Vista Panthers! They won the first two and lost last week. This will be the first game of the season for Vista.
Vista, last year's DI champs, have their work cut out for them. They have only 4 starters returning, none on offense. However, Vista has a great tradition and cannot be counted out.
The game is set for 7:00, but we hope to get the webcast going five minutes early because there are so many interesting bits of information to tell the fans.

After failing to score on three good drives in the first half, the Panthers found themselves down 3-0 at the half. In the second half Vista scored a TD to lead 7-3. Punahou made a fg and added two TDs to win 19-7.
It's important to remember that Vista was replacing about 18 of 22 starters this year. Also, the Bufnblu (that's their name!) had already played THREE GAMES, losing only once. Punahou got stronger as the game went on, possibly a sign that they were in better shape after having faced three opponents previously.
Vista is not likely to be as good as last year (12-1 and Div I champs) but we think we saw evidence that the Panthers could well develop into a more than decent team in 2011.

And here is the video webcast from IBNsports.com (we did a simulcast with them). We sure could use a pre season to warm up. A production staff wouldn't hurt, either, but the play by play and color aren't too bad. The play by play in the 2nd and 4th quarters is noticeably better than the 1st and 3rd for some reason...

Yeah, I'm not quite sure what the hell the reason is why the play by play is superior in the 2nd & 4th quarters, but it is what it is. ;D I'm sure the quality of the 1st & 3rd will improve... Tune in for next week's game VS Helix. That may be an even tougher game for Vista - but if they cut down on the turnovers and penalties they may just be able to pull out a W.

This week's game may also be on IBN Sports (streaming through YouTube and archived a few days later for replay). It hasn't been confirmed yet.
At the very least we'll have the audio through hitekradio.com (which is archived almost immeadiately).

So much for IBNSports.com showing up. They were supposedly there but left about an hour before game time. Whether they were really there at one point or not I don't know. They weren't there for the game - that I do know.
However, it is up and available on demand at hitekradio.com. The play by play was pretty good, but, unfortunately, the game wasn't. Vista took two steps backwards tonight, aided by a very, very good Helix team (that has HUGE linemen).
Vista has a great chance for a bounce back game in two weeks against Pechanga, errr... Great Oak on 9/23. We will, as usual, carry that game live.

Vista had to replace 18 out of 22 starters (including ALL of their offensive starters). A rebuilding year filled with some struggles was inevitable. It's hard to complain about a bad game when the team just brought home the CIF Championship 8 months earlier. They've got some good players and a great coaching staff. I still think they can win 6 games in the regular season and knock off an opponent or two in the playoffs. They can, whether or not they will we won't know for a couple months. And thanks for the kind words about the webcast. We almost sound like we know what we're doing. Almost...

Well, it looks like this could be a long season for the Panthers. Losing 18 starters is proving to be an even bigger mountain to climb than we thought after week 1.
Last night's game should have been their first win of the season, but instead they were dominated by Great Oak of Temecula (Pechanga High School, more or less), as the Panthers lost 31-7. The Panthers will look great on one play, and not very good the next. Inconsistency is the only thing that's been consistent with the Panthers.
This team does have quite a bit of talent, but it hasn't gelled yet, and their offensive line just doesn't seem to be big or strong enough to handle the larger teams. They've still got another 7 games to play, so we'll see how the coaching staff can develop the team over that time.
But this isn't the Vista Panthers team of the last couple of years. Vista goes through this every few years. I'm just concerned that their JV lost 12-0 yesterday. That doesn't bode well for next year...

Week 5 and the Panthers finally looked like the VISTA PANTHERS.
The Panther defense held El Camino to negative yardage and NO first downs in the second half en route to a 21-14 win (after trailing 14-7 at halftime).
Next up - Escondido. Hear the game live (10/14/11 at 7:00 pm) or on demand after the game.

Vista beats Escondido 14-13 in a very entertaining and hard fought game.
Once again Vista shuts an opponent out in the 2nd half. The Black Shirt defense is starting to gel. They're stepping up.

Look out! Vista's starting to look like a legit playoff team. Maybe not a championship caliber team yet, but they sure looked impressive Friday night in their dominating 21-7 win over #7 San Pasqual.
They held the top rushing QB in North County to 36 yards rushing as they kept San Pasqual off the scoreboard until the 4th quarter when the game was almost decided. Vista's defense was phenomenal. Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator/Offensive Coordinator Dan Williams (yep, he's doing all three - and not by choice) had a great game plan coming in, and then made some effective in-game adjustments that helped his team win in convincing fashion.
Like I said, Vista isn't yet a championship caliber team, but they are coming together and starting to gel as a unit. They're starting to believe. After losing 18 starters this coaching staff is proving why they are one of the best in the county.
Panther for life, baby!

Vista gets back on track thanks to the hapless (and almost helpless) Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns.
28-10 Panthers, and it wasn't even that close, really. (The only RBV TD came on a pick 6 that went for 102 yards in the 3rd quarter.)
Vista had their backup QB start the game, and he played up until that pick 6.
