I hate when places don't like us after at all we've done for them - we gave them the Shah, weapons to their neighbor and to them for a good ole' rompin' WWI throwback trench and gas war, a nuke-armed preemptively striking new/old nation in their backyard, and now fart jokes - ingrates.

We also took actions in the immediate post WWII era that prevented a USSR-backed communist take over of Persia/Iran. (www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truman_Doctrine) That should count as a positive gesture. I wonder if there are any statues of Truman in Tehran erected in celebration of that friendly gesture by the Americans. As for the Shah, Iran was much better off with him in power than the mullahs. Oh, perhaps you think that Iran is better off today with the mullahs in charge. By the way, by what strange reasoning do you blame the Iraq/Iran was on the U.S.? This business of "we backed Sadaam" is way, way overblown. A bit like the "Bush lied" nonsense spouted by Kerry and a number of other Dem. Senators who, based on the same intelligence data, voted FOR the resolution authorizing the use of force by the United States against Sadaam. You need to get your facts straight. AzWm

AzWm Gentlemen, the simple fact of the matter is that Communism will never be a threat to an Islamic State. While, Islamic States are a certified threat to Communism. Our intervention in Iran to stop Communism is a hilarious concept to them and has no justification in history. Therefore it is presently preceived as totally false and almost laughable propaganda from the United States. As they see it, all we were there for (in Iran) was to control their oil fields for our profit. That also explains why we have set up dictatorships in Saudi Arabia and other oil rich countries. That is the reason why we are using this phony sham of Democracy in Iraq.

Of course, one thing this country does well is set up puppets, either to extract things from its lands, or to keep it destabilized.
Also, it is not another nation-state's job to define how a populace is better off, self-determinacy is a key, maybe the, component of liberty particularly when that place comes from a different tradition positing a different future. So we can pat ourselves on the back for killing millions in Vietnam because it kept them from evil communism for a decade or so, or that we gave them a western backed dictator instead of a soviet backed one, but it all ends up the same way.
Why do we get to determine what government or weapons places have? If they are pale skinned or super dark we don't really care what they do, but if they have a hue somewhere in the middle we have to step in and provide them with some type of tyrant that we support.
And we funneled billions into Iraq, gave them everything from weapons to technology to military intelligence directly to destabilize iran and the region in general .
