I think so, as well as Ernie Lawson.

I know what you're saying, but by the "puts it all together" you make it seem like he's under-performed the past few years. Remember, he got thrown right into the fire as a true freshman and has since battled injuries. Of course he was going to be behind. I give him credit for sucking it up and taking the field to do much of anything. And yes, with that said, I hope for his sake he comes out in 2010 and puts it all together.

He's played well for two years and would ideally be a sophomore ready to contend for all MWC honors this year. He was my favorite recruit in his class and I think he'll be our best D-lineman this year (admittedly, Perry Jackson or and other newcomers are guys I have not seen yet.) The Dline should be much improved!

Is this the year he puts it all together? I truly believe so. He has it in him. Agreed. I've heard several pundits say there is no better preparation for playing the line in major college football than to have wrestled competitively at the HS level as Long did. Has to do with learning quickness and leverage, right? And I love the fact that whomever from Chuck's staff found the kid realized he had the build to be able to put on lbs. without turning into a slug as a result and Jerome has done just that to HIS credit.

also...this year the DL and LB's and DB's will have a year under their belt with the 3-3-5.
It is a very hard scheme to learn. But once you get it down, it can be very effective.

For the most part, I have full confidence that Rocky will have his side ready to go this year. As with most Aztec fans it's the offense that scares me. If they continually pull those 3 and out stunts in the second half when the scores are close we'll be screwed, again. We still lack depth to keep one side on the field too long. We need more balance. Simply put our success this year will hinge on how the oline performs, as usual.

Wrestling and throwing shot/disc seem to be the best extrasport training one can get - all about leverage, footwork and explosivness

Sometimes the DT in a 3 down linemen scheme don't get many tackles, but that doesn't mean they aren't doing their job. For a true Jr. he certainly looks ready to step it up and anchor the DL.

Size won't be an issue for our line this year.
DE - 6'3 285 Ernie Lawson DT - 6'5 290 Jerome Long DE - 6'3 250 BJ Williams
Then rotating in
DT - 6'2 285 Neil Spencer DE - 6'1 260 Jacob Tauanuu *hopefully* DE - 6'2 250 Perry Jackson
That's a pretty solid rotation of D-linemen.

I'm less worried about dline than i've been in a few years, if the secondary improves we might be serviceable on defense.

Our secondary is probably one of the most athletic in the conference. the only thing is that they are young. But if they can grasp the scheme and their assignments, they will be good.

Just a reminder (which will go over like a lead baloon ). Chuck Long said before his 3rd year, that in year 4 and 5 the defense would be very good (of course that was in his system). The reasons he stated were the development of young players that were forced to play as true freshman. Among the ones he talked about (this was on 1090 radio interview I heard)... -Jerome Long -BJ Williams -Miles Burris -Marcus Yarbourough -Logan Ketchum -Neil Spencer -Ernie Lawson -BJ Williams Will the D be better this year (even though with a strategy change?)... Of course it will. They have depth and experience with Chuck Longs recruits.

Nevermind the fact that Long's defensive scheme and abilities as a DC are VASTLY superior to Elliott's.
