The Aztec women were vying for the services of a top PG from the bay area, named Brittany BoydOn July 9th the Aztecs announced that Chelsea would transfer and on July 12th ESPN reported Brittany Boyd verballed to Cal. I think the timing of the two are related. Either Chelsea was our backup plan or Boyd was. Or maybe Beth needed a commitment right away or not at all, to insure Chelsea wouldn't slip away. Or maybe having the player for a year in practice and in school and not having to wait till Novmeber to "lock" the player in made the difference. Both are great players.

REALITY CHECK! This gal only averaged a bucket or less the last couple years and has been very banged up. I hope she does not think it will be easier to get time here because we are quickly becoming a "Duke-level" program. We are Sweet 16 to Elite 8 range all the way from here on out with NO turning back. Best of luck to her as I have total faith in Beth. She is on a big roll!!![/quote She'll have an entire year to get healthy and learn the system.

This is just another positive that comes from winning in the NCAAs. The women have now advanced higher in two consecutive years so Beth can now attract better talent to get her program to a higher level. We've all seen the strong get stronger and now it's one of our teams for a change. How nice is that?
The mens program has to make that same breakthrough if they want to follow in her footsteps.

I read on a blog that Ashley was going to check out a new school this week. Too bad, I thought she would be a really good college player given the chance. Maybe she will get that at Chico State.

I already reported that she will be going to Chico State. I thought she could have been a good player on the Mesa as well.

Chico State and SDSU both have the reputation of being party schools, but there is a difference in that aside from the Greeks, most of the parties associated with SDSU are well off campus (PB,MB, Mission Valley, College area. etc.) which is not surprising considering that a large part of the student body commutes. At Chico State, a large majority of the student body, including Greeks, non-Greeks and Butte College students live within one-half mile of the campus which is officially a "dry" campus, but is surounded pretty much by dozens of great bars for the 21 crowd and old homes with huge backyard keg parties for the under 21 crowd.
In the end, both schools enjoy solid and well-earned reputations for academics as well as their social scene and I would not hesitate to send my kids to either - in fact I did. My daughter started at SDSU and graduated from Chico State and my son started and finished there.
College kids party - everywhere, but at campuses like Chico's, it is more concentrated and evident than most.

Yes, but not to be ignored is her high rating out of high school and Beth's faith in her. Given those two things, I expect big things from her. Remember Jene only averaged 8 points in 31 minutes a game at Cal.

Saw two of our girls in gear (one in red, the other in black) training by running in Balboa Park yesterday.
