Chen today gave up 6 hits and a stolen base in the third inning, but was charged with no earned runs. That is a good example of why run average is also important. If every player did exactly what they did but the out was made instead of the error, Chen would have gotten out of the third inning without a run being scored but would have given up 3 runs in the 4th inning and still have runners at 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out. Pitchers need to take responsibility for not letting runs score after an error.
