We designed a team that can not win at home with consistency. If you play 600 at home and 490 or better on the road, you usually are in contention for the division.
The masterminds in the Padres office have managed to assemble a team that can not win at home like they should. That is embarrassing.

They are playing better at home. So because they have not won at home, like they did last year, you come to the conclusion that they can not win at home? That is rather sloppy thinking on your part Joe. I am more use to you having tighter logic.

It's not that they can't, it's just that they don't.

Sometimes all it takes is a couple of kids to get hot with their bats and all of a sudden the whole team seems to pick up emotionally.

Padres are 10-6 at home over the last 16 games. That is nice since they started the year 9-21 at home.

If they can just play KC the rest of the year they may have a chance.

If they can just play KC the rest of the year they may have a chance. They took 2 of 3 from Atlanta too. They are more healthy and are playing better.

Actually they WERE designed to win at home and for that I am glad. The Padre's management is finally starting to get it. They intentionally got Maybin, a young speedy, athletic CF who can cover some ground. They got Bartlett and Hudson for SS and 2B so they could be stronger up the middle on defense and a little more speed. The problem is that Bartlett has made more errors than usual, Hudson and Maybin have been hurt, they neglected signing Torealba while Hundley got hurt and has been underachieving so they are weaker behind the plate. Also, losing Adrian Gonzalez hurts their defense since they got an OF who doesn't play 1B to replace him. So the defense has been bad. And since they have several new hitters, they all have had to make adjustments to get over the Petco Park pysch-out, like Ludwig did last year. They are starting to come around now, though. However, I believe management did design the team to win at home, they just haven't done it so far.
