San Diego Padres designated 1B Jorge Cantu for assignment. I was hoping for lightening in a bottle with this signing. Dang, he fell off quick. He was a productive hitter just two years ago.

I was hoping for lightening in a bottle with this signing. Dang, he fell off quick. He was a productive hitter just two years ago. He's not suited to come off the bench. They needed to give the guy an extended period as a starter. Where? Cantu played a lot of games in April when Hawpe wasn't hitting well, but when Hawpe start to rock in May, Cantu only started once at first and his defense at 3B is bad. And now Rizzo is up and will play. Hawpe April 25 - May 29 (31 Games).313 .370 .515 .885

Another veteran bat is humbled by Petco Park. Vinnie Castilla, Jim Edmonds, Jeff Cirillo, Jorge Cantu I think the real issue with that list is the first 3/4 of them were already too old when the Pads brought them in. The park is duly noted as an issue as well.
