Maybe Tony IS the right guy to have as our baseball coach. It's not all about wins and losses. Tony knows that. What about us?

My thoughts exactly.
How can anybody read this article and not think that Tony is the right guy for this job.

I really like the passion that Tony Gwynn has for this job. I really hope that we see improvement in the wins and losses though.

Tony, and Rusty, handled that entire situation very well.
What kept running through my mind were some of the recent posts about the baseball players being so tight and not having any fun, and Gwynn not being able to connect with them. Strasburg is a very determined guy who totally bought into Tony's way of doing things, but he is a rare commodity. Tony won't find 30 like-minded guys to fill his roster with, unfortunately.

I remember some people trying to convince that none of the players liked Tony or respected Tony.
And I was told by one or two people that follow the program pretty close that Strasburg didn't like or respect Tony.
I went up to the offices a couple of times and talked to Tony and Strasburg was there one time. He seemed friendly and very respectful of Coach Gwynn.
People have to realize that these are kids. They are 18/19/20 years old. They are going to say things and rumors are going to get started.
I took all of those comments with a grain of salt. So the kids don't like him?
I never liked a coach I ever had, because......I was a kid and they made work hard.

I never respected a coach that didn't make me work hard. The coaches that made me better and made me work hard I liked - I think just as many are like that as don't like a coach because they made them work hard.

Do we want a program that produces a great player everyonce in a while plus a bunch of really good pros - we send Faulk and Strassburg and Gwynn, Cage and Morrison, Az Hakim and Turley; Gwynn will be great for continuing that legacy every once in a while when a great player walks through the door - can he field a contender?
