www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2011/06/10/INRB1JQN0I.DTLAs Sterling put it, "The states are no longer drinking the Kool-Aid from Washington on drug policy."
As for Washington: "Washington is never going to be the leader on this. They don't lead public opinion. They follow public opinion."Since Nixon the Feds have tried to have this bull$#!+ "war" that will never succeed and only encourages the rise of gangsters and cartels just as prohibition encouraged the rise of the Mafia. During the 40 years or so since Nixon declared war, a bunch of Latin American states have come close to being failed states and our states have spent a fortune incarcerating non-violent drug offenders. The right-wing loves to whine about DOE, but DEA is a total waste of taxpayer bucks and it should be "disappeared". BTW, I'd also entertain arguments as to why ATF shouldn't be cut by 3/4. =Bob
