As Wright came downstairs in his boxer shorts, he said the officers barged through his front door. Wright said an officer grabbed him by the neck and led him outside on his front lawn.
"He had his knee on my back and I had no idea why they were there," Wright said.
According to Wright, officers also woke his three young children, ages 3, 7, and 11, and put them in a Stockton police patrol car with him. Officers then searched his house.
"They put me in handcuffs in that hot patrol car for six hours, traumatizing my kids," Wright said.
As it turned out, the person law enforcement was looking for - Wright's estranged wife - was not there.
Wright said he later went to Stockton Mayor Ann Johnston and Stockton Police Department, but learned the city of Stockton had nothing to do with the search warrant.
U.S. Department of Education spokesman Justin Hamilton confirmed for News10 Wednesday morning federal agents with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), not local S.W.A.T., served the search warrant. Hamilton would not say specifically why the raid took place except that it was part of an ongoing criminal investigation |

I am sure much more will come out about this story, but that does not address the basic issue. Why do we have a Dept of Education in the first place and why would they have a unit like this?

I am sure much more will come out about this story, but that does not address the basic issue. Why do we have a Dept of Education in the first place and why would they have a unit like this? Why do we have the DEA? How much more do you care to spend on "the war on drugs" given that it has offered no results? Crap or get off the pot here, Pooh. If you're going to cut spending for education, which is sad, we should get rid of the DEA. Oh, and BTW, we should cut the defense budget in half. Feel free to defend your welfare system while whing about the taxes billionaires pay. =Bob |

The only result of the effort has been larger jail populations, with no reduction in drug use, by anyone, anywhere. |

Why stop a good rant with actually sticking to the original point. I think most can agree that the Ed Dept doesn't need a SWAT team. I can't think of any actual reason for one in that dept. I would go much farther because I find no real meaningful function of The Dept of Education that can't be done more efficiently at the local or State level or transferred to another Dept where it fits better. I also have to wonder how some folks use Drug Policy as some sort of point. Just does not make any sense and is a completely separate issue. |

It amazes me how right-handed, lineal thinking you are. We're talking about the entire budget but your intent is to hold it down to DOE instead of discussing the entire budget because one of the right-wing "causes" is to get rid of DOE. That's fine, but I'm arguing that if you want to eliminate that department, you damn well should be looking for serious cuts in other departments, particularly DOD and DEA. This is the problem - anyone who comes on here and interferes with your pet whines and you automatically demand that we start a new thread instead of actually addressing the larger picture. The department of education was a giant power grab by the federal government. It should be phased out. It does more harm than good. Most people are surprised when they find out how recently education was fine without a department of education.

It simply is not cost effective and is producing an uneducated public that is not being trained to go into the workforce and be productive. Somehow we missed the boat on that one goal (To educate future workers of America.) The Federal Government is funding public education to the tune of $4000 per child per year (rough estimate because there are so many different programs that assist local schools). States are funding public schools. Cities are funding public schools. Lots of funding but miserable results. Time to go to a voucher system. For half the money presently being spend, we could provide far better education for our children. After fifth grade we could either get them on the College track or the Vocational Track. It is senseless to pretend that low IQ students need to be prepared for college. They just need to be prepared for a job. |

Even the atomic clock in Fort Collins Colorado would not help. I would need more documentation from you.  |
