This penalty will be akin to what Alabama received several years ago. They were s#!++y for several years. The smokescreen was to blame their lousy performances on the coaches during their penalty phase. USC is screwed and will run into the same scenario. The Trojan fans will start howling for another coach. Watch and see. Kiffin will be the first coach to start the process. Too funny! A pundit on Rivals Radio said it's virtually identical to the penalty imposed on Miami. Butch Davis left for the NFL during the investigation, getting out of Dodge a year earlier than Pete Carroll did. The year immediately before penalties were imposed Larry Coker won a national championship and then just as you say, when the program fell off significantly, the blame was laid completely on Coker for going 12-1, 11-2, 9-3, 9-3 and 7-6 thereafter as a result of the continual dropoff in the number of scholarship players he could bring in. If U$C follows the Miami pattern, we won't see any significant reduction in wins right away and knowing Kiffin, he will pat himself on the back all over the place as a result. However, the reality will be that those self props will be premature. BTW, when is Mike Garrett going to be fired?

LA Times today says there is not a rush to leave the school, plus they are trying to get the penalies cut, would have been a hit if they were banned from TV for 2 to 3 years

LA Times today says there is not a rush to leave the school, plus they are trying to get the penalies cut, would have been a hit if they were banned from TV for 2 to 3 years What the article surprisingly says nothing about is rumors that the numero uno freshman recruit in the entire country from Minneapolis (can't recall the name) is seeking to get out of his commitment. I haven't followed it that closely because I just don't care enough but if they lose a kid of that stature, it could start an avalanche. Holy Moly. The top 10 schools are back east. I wonder if we have a shot at any of the players that really don't want to leave California?

And although I didn't notice it earlier, props to Ron for beating me to the punch. (It's slipshod reporting like that which is driving the Times and other traditional newspapers out of business.)

That hurts. That is a big loss for SC. Agreed. For the L.A. Times to have overlooked the possibility is ludicrous. As an internet pundit put it, this kid wasn't just any recruit. Rather, he was probably the most sought after recruit in the entire country this year. His decommitment therefore figures to hurt not only in that he won't be playing for the Trojans himself, but it sends a really bad message to others who have verbaled to them for 2011. I feel sooooo bad for them, too . . .

However, the reality will be that those self props will be premature. BTW, when is Mike Garrett going to be fired? Actually, not to be an a-hole, but Miami had their sanctions in 1995 that were exactly like the ones given at SC. Erickson was the coach at the helm at that time. He left for the NFL and Butch Davis came after him at the start of the penalties in 1995. They lost 31 schollies over a three year period (SC losses 30 over three years). Outside of '97 (5-6) they had winning records every year during and after the penalties. Just three years after the end of the sanctions they went 11-1 and should have played Oklahoma for the 2000 MNC. Butch Davis left in January 2001 with the program stronger than ever and no sanctions occured under his watch. He set Larry Coker up big-time to which Coker went undefeated and won a MNC in 2001. They were undefeated in 2002 and absent a blown PI call at the end of the game would have won back-to-back MNC's. Coker did blow up the program but he did it through poor recruiting, not from NCAA penalties. Erickson was the one in charge when all of the infractions happened. Just needed to set the record straight.

This is no doubt of interest to most if not all Aztec fans, but it really belongs here. Let's try to post only items on the Aztec board that are closely related to Aztec athletics or academics; otherwise the categories become pretty meaningless.

F'ing NCAA. And to notice whom is in charge of the investigation...The same jackalope whom was the AD at Miami when they were running amok of EVERY rule.
Funny- this is about dispersion of an "equal" distribution of penalties- funny- Tenn did MUCH more and got MUCH less, see UMIAMA and many others.
$C got hosed- and NO I don't love $C I just hate (hate B?U actually) dislike the NCAA.

The only thing I liked about USC being so good is it provided some counterbalance to the huge East Coast/Mid west media bias. If the Aztecs could pick up a coupl eof key USC players this year it could significantly expeditie our rise out of mediocrity.

Awesome! Adds a little more teeth to the punishment. It keeps the schools name out of the Top 25 for a few years. I'm also counting on those scumbags Orgeron and Kiffin to resort to form and cause even more trouble up there. This keeps getting better and better. ;D
