This penalty will be akin to what Alabama received several years ago. They were s#!++y for several years. The smokescreen was to blame their lousy performances on the coaches during their penalty phase. That's why they had such a revolving door.
USC is screwed and will run into the same scenario. The Trojan fans will start howling for another coach. Watch and see. Kiffin will be the first coach to start the process. Too funny!

This does damage them a bit: USC UPPERCLASSMEN MAY transfer without penalty, without having to sit the requisite one season. And interested programs may initiate contact with eligible players.[/u] A lot of people on here bitched about the amount of time it took, but finally and thankfully, the NCAA brought down the hammer and brought it down hard. His comment on Kifflin is also well-written. If I'm Kifflin, I'm shaking in my boots because I'd recognize that I'm most likely a caretaker for the penalty years before they bring in someone who knows how to rebuild a program. =Bob

I hate to tell you this -- for those of you in your moment of glee over this -- but it's really not going to make much difference.
Point 1: You never want to be the next guy behind a legend (Pete Carroll), because it's pretty much a SURE THING in the college coaching circles that you WILL be fired. Kiffin -- with this bowl ban -- just bought himself one to two years to futz about all he wants.
Point 2: Carroll never used SC's full alottment of schollies. Leftover scholarships were used to reward upperclasman who came in as walk-ons and stuck it out. So being short on them isn't going to cut into them too badly.
Point 3: Ed Orgeron can recruit like a mother! He has been what they have missed over the last 4 years when they were "only" fielding championship Rose Bowl teams.
Point 4: Most of those penalties are going to be reduced significantly. SC has extemeley high-powered L.A. attorneys doing their bidding, and the NCAA is... the NCAA.
So, haters, better enjoy their absence at the end of this coming season's bowl slate, because it's going to be a very brief respite.

Couldn't be much happier right now...love it! Better than the death penalty! Seeing them suck and suffer is better than a quick and painless death!

Whether the penalties against USC are reduced is a very open question. Someone has reported that the NCAA has changed their appeal rules such that a successful appeal is more difficult.
Wonder how long the process will take.

Is there anyway we can benefit by picking up one of their upperclassmen ? I believe so. I can not see any of their seniors, or junior class men moving to another PAC-12 school, only to sit out a year. These are quality players, that want to play and collect their paycheck at the end of the season in the form of a bowl game. For those who are willing to move out of USC, they are up for grabs. Also, I can't see another PAC-12 school using a scholarship only to sit one of these players, who may enter the pro draft after that year. The article didn't really address the four-year probation period and with Kiffin at the helm (Mr. I like to party with the young underclassman), the school is at high risk of that death penalty.

USC will still be USC. All the money and power is still there.
If they do not get a new AD, you know that the Alums think it will be all right.
I am betting that they still field really good teams.

The most immediate impact would be transfers and signees being asked out of their LOI's.
So where is the exodus? Aside from one guy -- who was apparently either injured or a problem anyway -- transferring to Louisville, I haven't seen any indication that they are leaving en masse -- and college football season starts next month. They have retained their entire Top 5 class they just signed.
This is why some of you, while celebrating, are basing it on false hope. If anything, it's not going to be anywhere near the "Death Penalty", and will instead be the "slap on the wrist" that many of you predicted all along.

To me we should be interested in SC players who want out of this years LOI class. Also I would be looking at the QB's, and skill players at all positions. OLineman would be last on my list unless they are freshman. That position takes more time to develop and we already have 15 or OLineman developing. I don't have names, but I think about 4 players have left $C at this time.
