If he is held in such high esteem, how in the heck is Dunlap still "just" an assistant coach?

How long do you expect Fisher to remain? I would think 4+ years. Many of these guys will get jobs or fizzle out as career assistants; furthermore, do you think our next coach will be a young, bright successful assistant say under a K, or Barnes or Williams or will it be an already established coach like Kruger or Alford? That is one of the great things about what Fisher has built, I think we will be a supreme destination for one of the great young, well-bred assistants or a good, established coach (provided the money is there which likely will mean putting more butts in seats in bball and maybe more importantly football).

Assistants at UNLV and New Mexico both get honorable mention love.
Interesting to see Dunlap moved jobs again, and ended up at St Johns. Lavin (the new head coach) is a masterful recruiter but has never been known as a good XO's coach and Dunlap is just the opposite. Looks like a marriage made in the basement of the big east. St John also losses 10 players after next season ... so we'll finally get to see how well each of them can really do their jobs in the 2011 season.

Dalonte Hill? The guy who recruited Michael Beasley? Wasn't that one of the shadiest deals ever? Plus, he works for that lunatic Frank Martin. No thanks.
Several others have "career assistant" written all over them.
As to Dunlap, although I might not trust bekays with my daughter, on this, I will defer to his judgment.

Hey were mentioned with a lot of top players again, thanks Lavin. Who is a classy guy and met him personally. So, I think your gonna be regurgitating Gordon Wood when it's all said and done.

If he is held in such high esteem, how in the heck is Dunlap still "just" an assistant coach? In one of my conversations with Dunlap, he said he wants the perfect fit for himself, and he won't take a D1 head job just to take a D1 head job. He then followed it up with, if that perfect job never comes available, then it wasn't meant to be.

I would agree, 4 years or so. And yes most would be on their first D1 job somewhere, However, Dunlap with Lavin could last a while if they are successful. Which means he could still be out there, being that he has been so picky. I think when Fisher goes we will have the pull to get a Established coach our a young up and comer with a few years of D1 experience. We just have to have the money to pay for it...which might hinge on how well football does.

Yup, if football can make some headway and Fisher keeps building the way he is, I think we'll end up with a tough decision of which route to go and have 4 or 5 amazing candidates lined up to take the job. For that alone from where we've come means some big props to Fish.
