Did we end up getting Beed, or did he go somewhere else?

Beed signed his LOI here. His teammate jumped ship to UNLV.

Is oak ridge the good basketball school, or am I thinking of something else?
yeah 6'3 225, 4.58 40 - dude sounds like he would end up as an Urlacher here not a corner rusher.

I like the fact that because of our traveling camps that this kid and our coaches were exposed to one another. Nothing may come of it as was the case with Bray last year, but sooner or later we are going to land a difference maker because our staff is being proactive in getting this program "out there."

LB size with Safety speed. Very Urlacher like. I'll leave it to one of you guys who actually played the game to correct me if I'm wrong but it's my understanding that more so than is the case with more conventional defenses, the 3-3-5 requires that you not try to fit square pegs into round holes. That's not so much true at cornerback, where they do pretty much what any other cornerback would do. But with regard to the other positions, although you need a huge nose tackle, because the rest of the guys have such a myriad of responsibilities, girth is much less important than speed and football IQ. I think like Beed, this kid fits that mold and I would sure love to see us get him.

I think like Beed, this kid fits that mold and I would sure love to see us get him. This may be a simplistic point, but the 3-3-5 is consequent of the philosophy not antecedent -- the philosphy of getting the best athlete you can out of high school (which in terms of raw talent/speed is almost always going to be running back and to some extent receiver, lb and some safeties and stand up end/lbs). Bring 'em in, see what they do well, see what type of frame they have and then find em a spot to play makes a defense like a 3-3-5 or the variance tcu runs the only way to utilize that type of team. Guys like Jerry Hughes go to d-end because they are a bit of a wide body, can handle the point of attack and guys like Urlacher go to the monster back because of their vision and ability to go sideline to sideline. As with any odd formation you need a noseman to eat up double teams, control two gaps, flow down the line to reduce cutbacks and push the pile back on drop back passes. And corners need to be able to sit on an island, go man to man and need to support the run less than most defenses. Otherwise, go get 8 guys hovering around 230 +/- 30 pounds and let them create havoc. We have focused, rightly so, on O-line, but the secondary play was pretty lousy, the pass rush awful, and run stopping non-existant. Hopefully some of the jucos push the returners at corner (Perez was terrible last year) and the reshuffling of the line and the juco transfer will help. I also look at someone like Preston who irked me at times last year with his going under blocks and getting stuck in the pile, missing tackles by leaving his feet or overpursuing when in the open field, etc; but, at that monster/aztec back, where he is in a little more space, he might have a monster year.

Particularly the KO return. As big as he is, he just out-runs two smaller guys who have the angle on him.

I actually saw this young man at the San Leandro camp giving by state two weeks ago. Good looking athlete, certainly passes the what you want an athlete to look like eye test. I didn't get to watch him at all, to busy watching my nephew.

No one special.... I just wanted to give him something to do on a summer's day since he wants to play football. He goes to Central High School in Fresno, he has good size for a sophmore, 6'2 but a little light in the pants. I am sure he will fill out eventually... Our DB coach Tony White evaluated him and thought, he would make a better lineback than safety.
