I will have to find things to do this summer that will make time pass, so have scheduled a trip to Alaska in mid August. Some old Navy buddies want to have a get together in Montana in a few weeks. I have already completed my round the world tour in 14 steps, so no need to continue that. Soooooo, I'll watch a few of the Padres games, but I won't take seats right behind the catcher anymore. I refuse to pay premium bucks for an inferior product.

This looks like it is going to be a very long season. No $#!+ Sherlock! Those 90 wins and great play over almost all of last season was a mirage. The final month of last season was reality that we're seeing again this season.

This team is SOOOOO different from last years team. No Tejada, No Gonzalez, No Garland, No Correia, No Eckstein, No Hariston Jr, no Torrealva, No TG Jr. We have 3 players from last eyars opening day starting lineup that are still on the team. Last year was no joke, the Padres were a great team. This year... we so far have sucked and I don't see it ending any time soon.

We had a phenominal bullpen, a great starting 5 and a great first baseman. 90 wins makes you great in my opinion.

Even with all those players you mentioned, the team tanked the final month of the season and blew a 7 game lead and finished OUT of the playoffs. Great teams don't miss the playoffs.

The season came down to the last game of the season playing at the Giants. If the Padres win that game they trade places with the Giants having the 2nd best record in the NL. That game came down to a couple of pitches. The difference between a great season and not would have been decided in the playoffs. If the Padres win that game who knows what would have happened in the playoffs. Not many expected the Giants, who the Padres beat 2 out of 3 that last weekend, to win the whole thing.
Just curious Bruce ,would you consider World Series Champion St Louis 2006 to be a great team?

The fact is they blew the lead by playing like crap the last month. Re your question.....not all world series champions were great and not all great teams win the world series. RE 2006 Cards... ?? But ALL great teams make the playoffs.

Maybe not great, but a damn good'un. Last season if you watched on television you could see me on occasion directly behind catcher and right on the aisle. You will not see me there this season. I vote with my attendance and my pocketbook when it comes to professional teams. With College teams as long as I see improvement, I am happy.

ah, I f'd up that one. "Ifs and buts" For future reference: If ifs and buts were... You also need two "ifs".
On the other side of the coin, were the Padres just lucky last year? Luck in Baseball

All I know is that Baseball this season is going to be a major bummer for me. Years ago when the Padres were bad, I could switch my attention to the Cubs or White Sox as I grew up in Chicago. At least one of the three teams would have a good season.
This year, all three teams appear to have struck out. I have trouble cheering for the Dodgers as they play against my Padres and Cubs. I never have liked the Angels. DAMN!

Me always the optimist, Padres "just" 6 games out of first place in the NL West after yesterday's win

Me always the optimist, Padres "just" 6 games out of first place in the NL West after yesterday's win Now 5 games out. In 2007, Colorado started the season 18-27 and ended a game out of the best record in the NL. The Padres are now 14-20. They could go 4-7 to match the Rockies 18-27 to start the season.
