I think of Caddyshack: -How do you compare yourself with other golfers then? -By height.

Of course not, but a modicum of sense might be requisite. You blast Obama, rightly so, for his sparse background - is Palin's more regal? She was a mayor and then a governor for a couple of years until she saw the money elsewhere. She bounced around getting a bachelors, feels that asking her what periodicals she reads is an ambush. She is not a 'thinker' And the point I originally made is this is what the GOP power brokers think of women and what they could sell: a hotty - I never said that was my opinion as I've met and worked with/for hotties and dogs and both sides had their brilliant ones and their dunces --- Palin is an uninformed, uneducated dolt - she is not cultured, she is not classically educated oh yea, and she's a quitter. Just what do you base that on? She was a Mayor and a Governor. Would you care to compare qualifications with her? She may not fall in line with your political beliefs but she is hardly dumb. Line her quals up against most of us and we come up short. She was the mayor of a town of 5 or 6 thousand. I think either of us could do that job. Any mayor of any town in San Diego County has a bigger job and budget. Being Gov. of Alaska was too hard for her. Peter Principle, anyone? She has good stage presence and can speak well. My biggest problem is that she seems proud to be ignorant. Ignorance and responsibility to not mix well. I doubt she will run for office again. She is smart enough to see where the money is. Being a pundit will be very good for her. She gets to take all the shots she want, and never has to take any responsibility. She and Fox will be very good for each other.

Have to wonder, though, how you would characterize Joe Biden. Similar sized state, never a governor, never a mayor, and takes all the shots he wants no matter what, and usually ends up a laughingstock. Ol' Joe and "Laugh-in" would have been good for each other. Too bad he's forty years behind the times.

You think they would have chosen her if she looked like say Diane Finestein? To pass it off as crude is to purposely neglect the underlying reason she is even in this conversation to begin with. That is even sadder! Do you think that you need to look like Golda Mier or Hillary to be taken seriously? The sad part is you trying to come across as a feminist proponent. =Bob

Here's the next GOP bathing beauty. She may not be as "hot" looking as Palin, but at least she's not as butt-ugly as Slimestein: My bet is your wife would say the same thing about you =Bob

I guess I shouldn't talk since I will be waking up next to a 60-year old woman in a month!... she is better looking than Brewer however Brewer is smarter than Palin, I give her that. Simple fact - Dave still thinks he's got enough hots to be a killer with the young chicks. It's a sad view, but old men are old fools. =Bob

And, quite frankly, I believe you're selling yourself way short with that assessment and I cannot think of any reason you'd do that other than you having the hots for her. Sorry Pooh, but I really don't see any reason you'd support her other than that you spanking the monkey at night fantasizing about her. My goodness - I suspect if she were to offer you a ponzi scheme you'd buy into it just because she's "hot" ( which, BTW, I do not think she is - her voice alone turns me off). =Bob

Judging by her accomplishments, she just can't be dumb. It might be unfair to compare her to most of us common folks, but just take Algore for instance. Palin must be smarter than Algore. For every Palin example of what might seem dumb to you, I can give you five Algore examples. People say tat George Bush was dumb as well. Do you think that you can qualify in a supersonic jet and be dumb? Some people are folksy or plain spoken, but that does not make them dumb.

Line her quals up against most of us and we come up short. Nothing she has demonstrated has shown a super or even above average intellect - the reports were that she had to basically be given politics and current events 101. There are plenty of people in government whose politics I abhor, but I respect their knowledge and wisdom - Palin has neither of those. Jesse the Body/Mind Ventura was Governor, Al Franklin is a senator - it is an accomplishment to be elected, but it doesn't confer some majesty and wisdom. I just hope the witchdoctor doesn't pray for her to be president or we can assure the worst 16 years in the history of America "the reports were that she had to basically be given politics and current events 101." Your source? I can give you an example of a person who was very dumb acting and not very well spoken that must have been very smart. He just had no common sense. That would be Jimmy Carter. You don't qualify as a "Nuke" in the Navy and be dumb. I will have to say you have me stumped about Al Franken. He just might be the example that trumps anything I could come up with.

Judging by her accomplishments, she just can't be dumb. There's a difference between being "dumb" and just not being very intelligent. nixon: super duper intelligent and fairly "smart" (leaving out the judgment and ethics, for which he obviously gets very low marks) Ford: above-average intelligence (more so than anyone thought), average smart. Carter: very intelligent but very dumb. reagan: average intelligence and very high "smartness quotient." bush the father: quite intelligent but not too smart (GOP Carter). Clinton: keenly intelligent and very smart. bush w: average intelligence, low average smartness quotient. Obama: high intellect, low average smartness. palin: extraordinarily low intellect, low average smartness. I gather this is your opinion. You might be right and might be wrong on some or even most of them. I agree with most.

I think the problem here is Win equates fulfilling something with intelligence - and specifically winning a popularity contest (which becomes easier (andsadly in this day and age) when you're of above average attractiveness and come off as folksy and down-homey instead of well read and knowledgeable.
There are dolts in every sector public, private, military. That Bush was able to fly a jet is a great accomplishment and perhaps shows his ability to learn how to do something particulalry if he was interested in it (and if it would keep him out Vietnam), but he seemed less than interested in political philosophy. I don't doubt that Bush has or had the tools to be very bright and maybe in certain aspects of his life he was, but he never fully utilized them - the silver spoon was there and things came easy to him through his connections (er.. daddies) and he seems to have a life that was never challenged nor did he challenge himself. One of my favorite Bush anecdotes is in his last or penultimate year in the white house he proudly proclaimed that he was reading books, it was like this Eureka moment, this epiphany from him that books can be productive in one's life particulalry when they are a very influential man. I remember in an article that he said he was reading the Stranger by Camus, maybe if he would have read the myth of sisyphus or the rebel during his formative years as well as a wealth of other books he apparently didn't read to the point he had to announce he was now reading books in his 50s, he would have been more effective.
Palin, on the other hand, is either very shrewd and knows that presenting as this anti-wisdom folksy soccer mom married to joe 6 pack with a knocked-up 17 year old daughter is a brillant ploy to earn millions or she is a dolt and all the book learnin' in the world likely wouldn't have made a difference.
Bush is a large vessel that he choose not to fill to the top, Palin has a leak and so she stopped pouring water into it.

Bush and Palin are history.
Now we have a fool with a leak... and doesn't have a clue what to do. He's got Bush's Admiral in charge of that, and he just fired his very own choice in Afghanistan and replaced him with Bush's lying sack of mierda (according to the Demagogue Party) General.
Obama: high perceived intellect so long as his handlers keep the teleprompter working properly....

Palin is just talking to the one segment of America that is the easiest to market to. That would be rural (mostly) white America. You have to say that this segment of America is still somewhat homogeneous...which most of America is no longer. That's why she comes up with catch all phrases like "those grizzly moms"! Who gets that??...except for a small segment of America. She is a good marketer....and she knows she will never get elected to a higher office. She could have just coped to "Guns & Ammo", Field & Stream and People magazine for Couric...and let it go at that, but she was trying to be something she is not.
