Those who are concerned about inflation are already not voting for him. It's all about jobs. If we continue to recover, even slowly, he wins in a rout. If we double dip, he could go down. Yoda out...

Inflation in the cost of food, gas, etc. is being caused by speculators in those commodities. It has been happening for quite some time and has hit the third world very hard. This type of speculation should be outlawed. It is literally killing people.

It's the cost of fuel which drives the cost of everything else. And your little Jesus hero ain't about to feed the crowd with a couple of loaves and fishes. He's doing exactly what he wants to do. Putting the country he hates in its place.

More and more folks will start to see how changing the way inflation is measured has benefited politicians and will see it as a much bigger issue. The price of gas and food will have nearly as much effect on Obama's chances as will jobs.

This type of speculation should be outlawed. It is literally killing people. The people who take the high risk side of futures contracts are indeed speculators, but it is a needed part of smoothing out the peaks and valleys in any given market. It gives stability to farmers in planning their finances. Government action or inaction in encouraging increasing supply of oil has had just as much to do with the price inflation of that commodity as has any speculation. Develop oil supply domestically and mid-east prices will fall. You don't even really have to bring product to market, just have that supply developed and available.

Win was on to something about inflation calculations. Heard on the radio or TV today that, if the same criteria were used today as were used in 1980, we would already have 10% inflation.
In the short run (next 20 years or more), we need to utilize more of the resources we have. That would mean more use of natural gas, of which we have plenty. Cars and trucks can run on natural gas. Some buses do today, and taxis did during WWII. But the Left is so hostile to fossil fuels that they cannot understand how long it will take to transition to non-fossil fuels for most applications.
When presented with a plan to open up new areas of the U.S. to drilling, Pres Clinton said, "But we won't see any oil from that project for ten years." Well, do you think that just maybe it would be nice to have more domestic production right now? If Clinton had had more foresight, maybe that oil would now be in the pipeline. Perhaps we wouldn't be seeing quite the same inflation in foods and other products that require energy to be produced and distributed.
(I can't help remarking here how stunning it was to hear Obama praising the Brazilians for undertaking more off shore drilling when he has put a moratorium on such projects in the Gulf of Mexico. Just what is this man thinking?)

The price of gas and food will have nearly as much effect on Obama's chances as will jobs. Seriously? This is not a country where people even consider how inflation is measured. This is a nation where they watch American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, Pawn Stars and WWE Raw. This is a country where people compliment residents of New Mexico on their excellent English. This is a country where people worry about where the President was born, but don't worry about pretty much any policy issue. Well, actually they do -- at least if, by "worry" you mean that they have regurgitated if passionate views on topics that they don't understand. This is a country... Well, you get the point. If, in order to cast your Presidential vote in 2012, you had to first correctly state how inflation is measured, President Obama would lose by a popular vote of 5-3. I think you give Americans far too much credit. Yoda out...

On the other hand, we can see in the Tea Party rallies that there are many more people today than a few years ago who really are trying to find out what's going on. AzWm

Most folks from most parts of the country are a little more aware than you are willing to admit.

There are uninformed folks on both ends of the political spectrum, but I tend to think that the left has many more. Just look at the folks dependent on handouts. Just which side of the fence are they for the most part? You don't see many "scupper lips" at Tea Party events unless it is the protesters.
