If the conference battles can have ten threads, surely St. Don can have a couple more.
I read on signon San Diego this quote from Dan Fouts, imagining him going to State:
Fouts, clearly weary from grief, mentioned a regret. It had nothing to do with Super Bowls or anything like that. As long as he played for Coryell, he wished he could have had more.
“I benefited as much from him as anybody, yet I’m still kind of jealous I wasn’t around for his earlier years at State,” said Fouts. “I know about (Dennis) Shaw and (Don) Horn and (Brian) Sipe, those great teams that those guys played on. I know they share the same feelings I have for Don.”
So folks.. what do you think is the best way to honor his legacy?
Dedicating a game to him? If so which one?
Doing something in conjunction with the Chargers. I know there is only one weekend where both SDSU and the Chargers have home games.. That's the Utah game for us and Denver on Monday night.. maybe a Don Coryell weekend??
His initials as someone suggested on our uniforms AND the Chargers?
I'd like to see all the above and more.
It hurts more today than it did yesterday. God be with his family!!

I'd like to see his initials on the uniforms all season long.
And there should be a special ceremony at halftime of one of the Aztec games this year. The Chargers can and should do one of their own as well.

I, too, would like to see his initials on the jerseys of the Aztecs and Chargers for all of this season...

1) DC on all Aztec uniforms all year; longer on football (the Padres kept RAK for years; don't the Bears still have GSH on theirs?). I noticed a "JW" on the UCLA batting helmets in the CWS.
2) Coryell-era uniforms
3) Use his offenses: I-formation, pass the ball!
4) Rename the field at the Q Coryell Field. He was 79-26-1 as Aztecs & Chargers head coach at San Diego Stadium. That's a .750 winning percentage. And this does not count '61-'66 seasons. Do that the weekend both teams play.
5) Have his signature on the field -- whether in bounds near the sidelines, or in the end zone -- all year.

The field should note Coryell all year for both teams that play there (the endzones would seem to be an appropriate spot), the initials should for sure be on the jerseys all year. The field is already Jack Murphy Field at Qualcolm stadium. Is anything on campus named for him? What about the Athletic Building?

If not, I think they should rename the AAC the Coryell Athletic Center.

Our new permanent Football Field, when it happens, Coryell Stadium!

Not a Chargers fan, so no opinion there.
But as for SDSU, I'm certainly in favor of an all-season, on-uniform tribute for the football team. A jersey patch would be really cool -- a helmet sticker would be a little underwhelming for me.
