Sleevless sounds like the guy who was on the board a couple of years ago.
This guy actually worked in the Athletic Dept. (from what some on the board thought) and hated Marshall Faulk.
He came on the board the day on or near a Marshall Faulk benefit of some type at Cox Arena and slammed the hell out of Marshall. I remember it fairly well, because Dave L. put the thread up urging fans to attend.
He never did explain why he disliked Marshall Faulk so much.
Sleevless was that you?

Probably schtupped his old lady or something like that back in college.

This is from a blog and has little if any real documention. It's from a blog which is directly quoting a column from the Seattle Press Intelligencer, the writer of whom purportedly heard it straight from the horse's mouth. Personally, I sure hope Marshall WAS talking tongue in cheek because if he wasn't, my opinion of him just went down a notch.

It is a disturbing thing if true and not meant as a joke. Ah, a breath of fresh air from you as usual. Personally, I get really annoyed with fans absolutely supporting the athletes from their school under any circumstances. IF Marshall was correctly quoted and IF he was serious, even if he was speaking from the heart, it sounds really bad if for no other reason than the "If you're not cheating, you're not trying" line comes directly from Jim Rome when Rome was just starting out as a smart ass kid 20 years ago. It's one thing for something like that to have been said by Rome when he craved attention to jump start his career, it's another for it to come from the mouth of Marshall Faulk today.

Despite Bob's worthwhile contribution, I do think that these comments, if Marshall really did make them, are unfortunate. But, of course, I'm a hopelessly old-fashioned sort of guy who believes in fair play and following the rules. AzWm Well, while I'm not sure if your comment was sarcastic or not (I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt because I've not know you to be a sarcastic person), unless someone grows up dirt poor, with a single mother, they don't know how much a kid wants to make things better for her. I don't exactly fit into that category because our extended family also included my Great-Uncle who worked for New York Central and then our local township, but it was close enough that I can understand the issues kids who do grow up in total poverty face. In truth, I wouldn't have taken the bucks because my mother would have been totally disappointed in me, but I do understand why some kids would. But keep in mind that understanding is not the same as approving. =Bob

Steve Hartman just teased this story on am 570 in LA (AM 1360 in SD) and will talk about it in the coming segments. Saying Faulk would have been perfect for u$c. Petros came in and added how he is amazed that we did not become a power with our recruiting base. They will probably add more to this in their next segment.

More than anything else I have trouble believing Marshall truely wishes he had attended a different university. One that could have provided he and his family more opportunity.
Anyone who had the opportunity to meet Marshal or hear him speak would find this totally out of character for him. That doesn't mean it isn't true. It doesn't mean it is true.
Personally, I would like to hear Marshall put his comments in their original context and maybe provide some explanation. Until that time I choose not to let this affect my opinion of him. He is an Aztec for life after all.

Actually Faulk DID take the money. I went to SDSU the same time he was there and once, I was crossing across the street near the chemistry building and he almost ran me down in his car as he wasn't paying attention. He was driving a brand new black Nissan Sentra that had the license plate "SDSU 28". Granted I'm still embarrassed that all SDSU and its boosters could slide the guy was a frickin' Sentra, but at least he got something....not bad for a kid from the projects who could not have possibly have afforded a car, let alone a brand new one.
