Thank the great dodger in the sky. When it came out that McCourt required a 30 mil secret loan from fox behind the back of the commish (thereby skirting the need for all tv deals to be approved by the commish and what collateral does he have other than selling future tv rights?) this seemed like it was coming.

I'm headed to Dodga stadium Thursday w/ a group. Haven't been there since I lived in LA in the early 80s. I'm surely not going to wear any SFG gear.

This is what happens when the other owners have veto power over who can buy a Major League team. Bud doesn't want anybody who might rock the boat by spending money or questioning how he runs the league, so that eliminates most of the really big money guys, because the really big money guys didn't get to where they are by slavishly following the orders of an idiot like Selig.
What you're left with are people who are so in debt from buying the team that they can't spend big money, and have to go along with whatever the Commish wants.
A guy on ESPN was saying that two of the leading contenders to own the Dodgers are the current owner of the Brewers, and good old Tom Werner of the Red Sox (and Padres). Two good yes men who will go along with Bud.
It's a good thing for the Padres. They won't have to contend with a free spending owner, they might even be able to outspend Werner.

One of the Dodgers problems is that they are paying a lot of ex-players big bucks this year. Ramirez, Manny $8,333,333 Jones, Andruw $3,200,000 Pierre, Juan $3,500,000 ---------------------------------------- Total $15.033 Million on players who are not on the team. Other than their ex-players, the Dodgers have $34 million plus 6 players in arbitration for next year. I wonder how much a controlled Dodger team will rebuild with 12 players being free agents next year.

Don't forget where the dodgers were half a dozen years ago when fox finally sold: in massive debt and hemorrhaging money. That limits who was willing to go for the franchise in the first place
Also, Texas was controlled by the league last year and they made some major trades - it's in MLB's best intrest to have LA competitive, so I would not expect them to be too hamstrung, plus, under MCCourt the dodgers have dropped to 12th in salary, MLB will provide a similar budget as this draws on, perhaps latitude to move up
LA times has a good article today outlining exactly what I said above and mentioned earlier in the week regarding the tv contracts and fox.
I'm a lifelong dodger fan, had season tickets for a few years as a kid, went to games every year until about year 3 of McCourt when it became obvious his intentions, glad to see the rest of dodger fans are finally staying away this year which helped push this.
Until baseball has true revenue sharing and a floor and salary cap, the Commish absolutely needs the authority to kick-out owners like McCourt that have actively worked to destroy a once-storied franchise (continuing the last years of the omalleys and fox's abortion)
