Zambrano already owned us in Game 1, Garza doing so today. Sheesh.
Another quality start for Moseley today.

The old rule of thumb "You can't win if you don't score" is definitely a problem.
The pitching is as good, if not better, than last season. The defense should be solid with Bartlett/Hudson up the middle and Maybin/Venable patrolling 2/3 of the outfield.
Having half the team not even hitting their weight is going to kill the offense. Hundley's been amazing so far, Hudson has been good. Headley and Maybin have shown flashes, but haven't been consistent. The rest have pretty much sucked. Loudly.
I was expecting it to be a scratch & claw "smallball" offense, but also expected at least some contibutions from Venable, Ludwick, and the Hawpe/Cantu platoon at 1B. It's been a very frustrating season so far.

A big Padres scoring inning in the 9th to tie it 1-1.
Walk Bunt single Walk Sac Fly
Break up the Padres!!
Padres Cubs go extra innings. Cubs have used the best of their bull pen and the Padres have their best 5 bullpen guys available. That happens when you go though pitchers with a 1 run lead (Cubs) and a 1 run deficit (Padres).

Can we please find one hitter who won't strike out more than they walk, just one?
How about scrubbing Hawpe and putting Cantu at 1B for a while and see how he'll do?
F it, bring up Rizzo now, and let him learn on the job.
Man, we have no offense other than a sporadic Hundley and a little O'Dawg. God, this is demoralizing.
I'm really starting to feel sorry that Black has to keep saying "this is how we play" regarding pitching, defense and little to no offense. Nothing more than company line excuse.

Did you guys REALLY expect more than this?? Seriously, when I saw the opening day lineup it had "last place" written all over it, not a single hitter than I'd be worried about as an opposing pitcher.

Pathetic support for Mosely, again.
It's a shame we can't allow a pitcher, in this case, Gregerson, to make one mistake and give up a single run without it being a catastrophic run.
Honeymoon's over, Jed and Jeff. You've got to give SD fans some hope, don't you?
I don't understand how we can have so many K's on offense, when we're not even a power hitting team?
Ugh!

In a game like this one that goes to extra innings with each team scoring only once, it brings tears to the eyes to think about how many runners were left on base.

Replacing Adrian Gonzalez's 100 RBI/year bat with Hawpe is a large part of the problem. No clutch hitting period.

If Hawpe/Cantu continue to strugle and Rizzo continues to hit the way he's hitting in Tucson, Rizzo needs to be called up by June.

What is Kyle Blanks status? I haven't read on him lately. He still recovering from surgery? I still think he has a bright future, but it will be in LF, not 1B.
He needs to lose some of that baby fat, but he has man power.

5 shutouts in 19 games. Took them 93 games to get to 5 shutouts last year. Padres won't score 10 runs this 4 game series.
Need to release Hawpe.

Padres offense through 19 games
.217 batting avg (dead last in majors)
12 homers (rank: 25th)
.306 OBP (bottom third)
Strikeouts: 157 (2nd worst in majors)
We do lead the MLB in stolen bases at 27. At least Bud is being aggressive.

Last night.
Number of Padre hits to reach outfield allowed by Roy Oswalt = 1 Number of trespassing fans to reach outfield = 2

Bring up Cedric Hunter again. At least he made contact in the few ABs he had.
It's a shame we have to keep the rest of our decent prospects in the minors to delay their arbitration date. Because this is the worst baseball I've ever witnessed and watching our prospects fight their way through a season would actually be better.
