So I went to the gym today to get some hoops on, and noticed Billy and Tim running a game on the main court (on the same team ...unfair). It was a welcome sight though, Tim had no brace on his knee and was moving well, hopefully his health stays on point.

I saw him grab a few boards, but I didn't get to watch too long because I had my game start. He was driving to the hoop strong though, quick off the dribble. Then again, its hoops at the ARC.

I love Tim's game. He does everything well. If his knees are close to OK, he can play 3 positions. Against New Mexico after Billy White went down, Tim guarded Ramon Martinez. He did a good job.
Tim shoots 3s. Over the last two seasons he is 12-34 shooting 3s. That is 35.3%. In limited action last year he was 4-9 = 44.4%.
Tim is a great passer. Not many Forward/Centers have an A/TO ratio above 1.0. Over the last two season he has 56 Assists and only 40 turnovers. That is an A/TO ratio of 1.4 !!!
Tim is a great rebounder. He had 73 offensive rebounds while playing 780 minutes in 2008-2009. That led the MWC in offensive rebounds per minute played.
Coach Fisher has stated that Shelton draws charges better than anyone xxxxxx. I don't remember the quote exactly. The xxxxxx is something like "he has ever coached" or "In the conference" or "he has seen in the NCAA".
Mark me down as a huge Tim Shelton fan.

It is great to hear Tim is running again.
Reading between the lines of what I have heard...
-Tim thinks he is making good process and will be ready for the season.
-Coach Fisher hopes so, but is taking a wait and see approach.
I think both parties felt the same way before the start of last season.
Ditto for me on being a huge Tim Shelton fan. Such a valuable guy to have on the team.

Just wondering, but shouldn't Tim being wearing braces in a pickup game with as bad as his knees have been?

A huge heart, solid game, .... fragile knees:
Senior year high school ... only played 4 games before shutting it down to have knee surgery
Freshman year college ... Shelton only played 4 games again, before shutting it down to have knee surgery ... again.
Redshirt freshman year ... averaging 8 and 5 (23 mins) but was quote "a shell of himself by the end of the year" due to knee injuries.
Soph year ... limited in practice early, and only played sparingly in 9 games before shutting it down to have knee surgery ... again.
I have a hard time thinking he will ever be able to contribute more than 15-20 mins per game. Hopefully the coaches ease him back slowly this year, while we have the depth, and allow him to have a much bigger role as a senior when he will be extremely needed.
Question for 06aztec ... how did he look? Did he lose some weight to take the stress off the knees?

If Tim can play 15 healthy minutes a game that would be huge. I think they should strongly consider sitting him until conference play starts.

That would be a huge boost for the Aztecs if Shelton can play the entire season. Very smart player, the perfect guy off the bench to spell KL or Malcolm.

Just wondering, but shouldn't Tim being wearing braces in a pickup game with as bad as his knees have been? We know two things about this... 1. Tim HATES wearing the brace. He doesn't like it, restricts him too much. He never wants to wear it. 2. Coach Fisher wants him to wear it whenever he steps on a court.

I would hate to see him blow out his knee(s) (again) against a bunch of scrubs at the ARC - he's got to be smart and protect it as much as possible; or, maybe it is a sign of just how well he's feeling.

A heads up.....Players do what they want on their own time......For the good or bad.
